Oh this was so fun — and today’s hit so many of my well-read niches. I shan’t get this lucky again.
The texture of all the suckers on the underside is impossibly satisfying, maybe one of the best feeling things you’ll find
Second time this week that an outside creature has gone running across a room while I’m just sitting here minding my own business. First time: spider. This time: this guy, and our “cabinet of wonders” decorating aesthetic turned out to be more practical than anticipated.
Not far off! We’re out of peas right now so it’s mushrooms and carrots
Just filled out my @romancingthevote.com donation form for one of the most dazzling things I’ve ever made out of glass beads and 24k gold and crystal!
Me, drinking tea, with a manuscript open, catching this stray here on Bluesky dot com
Clicked “everything” to see the full range and the first cover made me actually jerk back from my tablet screen like I’d seen a ghost:
When the local rufous hummingbird likes to camouflage himself as a rosebud to guard his favorite feeder
1. This piece surrounds its subject with anecdotes from profiles of real people, which are impossibly interesting by comparison. Who doesn’t want to walk Hampstead Heath with Hiddleston, or ride a Ferris Wheel with Christian Slater? 2. This transparently scripted interjection from the creator:
Playing around with the @adorkastock.com reverse mermaid, practicing my pulp-style illustration!
Just for clarity, here is the main section I‘m responding to from the piece at the top of the thread — they’re defining any author’s goal as one of innovative uniqueness, and saying a reader who wants genre expectations met is like a customer ordering a product to spec. I am disagreeing with that!
The Hellion’s Waltz (2021), a sapphic historical romance set in 1824, with a silk-weaver heroine planning a heist: www.oliviawaite.com/hellions-waltz #booksky #Romancelandia
They say they’re not banning romance projects, but literally the first thing prohibited on the rules list is saying your book is horny. A platform to avoid!
Her Wikipedia page has the number at 225 so I went into the talk section to see how long ago it was since that was edited, and I think the answer is “several years at least,” and I also offer you these gems:
@authormsbev.bsky.social The mystery butterfly bush has bloomed and it’s a lovely pale lavender!
Oh my god, speaking of Ripley, Damon apparently had a tiny cameo in Deadpool 2 that they credited as Dickie Greenleaf:
Back to back posts, so I did not immediately clock which one was from the satirical journalists
Ours is looking like it’s gonna be some kind of pink or purple, which is good because it’s backgrounded by the evergreens so that’ll be a lovely contrast:
Was getting lunch out today when a feeling stole over me — the eerie sense of being stared at, hard, from close by. Like when your small dog is begging for table scraps. Looked down automatically to the spot by my ankle where our late dachshund would have been waiting, and there was: this duck
This was actually for the brioche fern shawl pattern from Murder by Memory! Note the row where I got two of my green yarns confused for a bit, lol.
Amy’s work is utterly breathtaking, and the commissions process is a delight! She made this exquisite memorial piece for our late mini-dachshund (we always told him he was from the stars, and to the stars he returned) and it’s even more stunning in person!
Several! And plans for a tiny hound in the future. Scythe instead of a rifle. Here’s the spot where the fragrance is strongest!
