when your current fixation is the side project (that you're not supposed to work on until the main project is done)
just woke up from a dream where I was in the theater for "minions and monsters" but when the movie started I was suddenly teleported to a beach. there were no minions but the monsters were my friends. except for one: "regi-dolphin" who wanted to kill and eat me
just pushed a patch for Tres-Bashers, fixing Steam Cloud saves. sorry I'm almost 5 years late lol
anyway that's my thread. I've been thinking about this for weeks, maybe months. I hope you enjoy the random screenshots I took for each post. what do YOU think this game should cost? 🫵
but maybe a $10 base price would mean it'd be gifted more often? it *does* have online multiplayer... I dunno, I guess I also just don't want to devalue my work here. I always felt like the big "premium" indies were in the $20-$30 range, and my games feel appropriately priced just below that range.
I'm also worried pricing it at $10 wouldn't boost sales enough to warrant it. My reach is very limited and is now split between twitter & bsky. Discounts are also a factor. I always felt like Peter Shorts being $15 really helped it in the long run since it still pulls decent revenue on discount.
I want to believe the game will be replayable enough to warrant a $15 price tag, considering the multiple game modes (arcade mode being ESPECIALLY replayable) and the hat gacha machine providing a fun extra meta-progression and customization option. but... I don't know! I'm worried $15 is a big ask
on the other hand, there is the Adventure Mode, with all of its stages and enemies. it's still fairly linear and can be beaten in a little over an hour (as of last playtest) there is a hefty amount of content, but it feels like you can breeze through it pretty quickly.
been debating the price point of SpaceCatDX... Peter Shorts was $15 and I felt like that was fair for a search action plat-fighter thing of its scale. this game, though... it's a very fast-paced and linear game. you'll probably see most of the bosses in just a few hours, at least in Arcade Mode...
the decision to make him pre-rendered this time was mostly a "this would be funny" spur of the moment thing, but it also helped distinguish him from all the sprited mechanical dog bosses. a true non-sequitur boss fight. I had a to learn a lot of blender but it only took about a week to do it all
Mr. Walrus returns from the original Space Cat - he was one of the first big bosses I ever sprited. The only reason he isn't a dog (unlike the other bosses) is because he was originally intended for a penguin-themed platformer I never finished. He was always intended as a Punch-Out!!-inspired boss
happy 4th of whatever. I beat mm2 for like the 400th time played the rushjet1 music hack this time. the boss rush was intense!
i am creating a near-incomprehensible experience #SpaceCatDX #gamedev #indiegame
update so big it has a separate install path and you have to convert existing projects into a new folder 😵 a third gamemaker has hit the taskbar
nicer screenshots with more background tiles. the background changes mid-level but i'm not set on which ones i wanna use here yet. #SpaceCatDX i need to make more 3D backgrounds !!
it's driving me crazy. i thought it was only a handful of gamepads but it's every single directinput gamepad. spacecat dx reads dpads just fine but peter shorts just gets full force diagonal analog inputs from left/right and no dpad inputs at all.
last night we tried 6 players and it felt like the delay-based netcode was REALLY being pushed to its limit... it was still (mostly) playable, but I'm probably gonna have to break up the stages to boost performance #gamedev #SpaceCatDX
ran an online playtest last night! besides some performance issues on the busier stages (especially on steam deck) it felt GREAT to play with four players #gamedev #SpaceCatDX
