Good morning from #OSH26 where for now, it’s quiet. FU and FG have the field IFR again, nothing is flying & no arrivals. Eerily quiet. FISKE arrival is empty and air quality is in the HAZARDOUS range currently. EAA Museum opens at 1000 and is inside, that’s where I’ll be until the AQI gets better.☹️
Arrived at #OSH26 a day early. False reports of my campsite being given away turned out to be untrue lol! But the smoke is back and the air quality is not good especially to be staying in a tent for the next week. Not supposed to improve until Monday with some storms/rain. Less than ideal for sure.
It was like a zombie apocalypse around town today, almost no one outside on a summer day, thick smoke blanketing everything and blotting out the sun. Watered the flowers and garden wearing an N95 mask this evening. What have we done to our planet and our children’s future? ☹️
Easy to see where the wildfire smoke is sitting, dividing Ohio almost exactly in half.
Terrible here too. I’ll be in Oshkosh all next week for the show and camping in a tent so I’m really hoping it improves. 😳
It saddens me that my child will never know innocent summers with blue skies and clean air like we did. Now it’s summer after summer of days like today where the wildfire smoke from 1000’s of miles away means he can’t even safely go outside for more than a few minutes.
Always a fun task trying to find the #TDF26 stage by looking for a very specific grouping of aircraft on @flightradar24.com Look for a couple twin props and a helicopter all circling in a small area. Usually can find them after a few minutes as long as you have a general idea where to search in 🇫🇷
Builder's log says 747 hours of work complete on the RV-8, it's a sign...BTW, don't ask how many years now it's taken to get to the 1/3 'ish point of the build. Build when you can, which ain't that often sometimes. Fuel tanks just about completed. Will be glad to be done with the tanks. IYKYN

Although it ain’t much better at the Legacy’s either these days on the narrow body domestic side. This from a friend who flew his last 737 trip this week, switching to the 787 and commuting bc he’s tired of being abused like this:
Somewhat embarrassing that I did not know this. Charles Taylor, the Wright brothers mechanic and whose image is on every US maintenance certificate issued, turn out is from my little home town in Ohio not far from Dayton. Can’t believe I never knew this!!
Pretty cool astronomical event happening right now. The two brightest planets in our night sky, Jupiter and Venus, are hanging out right next to each other in what’s called a conjunction. If you have clear skies look to the west for this unique pairing, closest approach is Tues evening after sunset.
My EAA Chapter is so fortunate to be able to bring in amazing presenters and guest speakers. Tonight we had Randy and Shelly Schlitter, owners of Rans Designs Inc, a small but well known amateur built aircraft kit manufacturer from Hays, Kansas. Great to hear their stories of how they came to be.
