Boarding islands are not a relevant solution here if you're talking about keeping a traffic lane on the right of the streetcar. There is no room to build a wheelchair-accessible platform and also have 4 lanes. The only solution is to remove narrow the roadway like they did on Roncesvalles
This is why removing parking is only a temporary bandaid. Traffic will quickly grow to eliminate the time savings. It's literally "one more lane bro" but in the name of transit. It's more effective to prevent cars from passing streetcars so there's less traffic in front of them
If the bus really needs to be on the same street as car traffic, they could at least put it on the median so it's not blocked by the inevitable illegal pickup/dropoff for all those new buildings lining the street.

And to add insult to injury, the TSP does literally nothing to provide a green light for buses exiting the busway. The AVERAGE northbound bus delay with this programming is 60 seconds, up to a maximum of 120 seconds. There's no N-S ped signal so they could guarantee a green for buses if they wanted
Solar farms are already a successful form of power generation and we have lots of them in Canada. Solar parking lots are basically the same thing except they're smaller and don't sterilize any otherwise productive land.
What major transit system spends 50% of their fare revenue on fare collection? The Toronto Transit Commission collects over $1 Billion per year in fare revenue. I don't see a figure for fare collection but I guarantee it's nowhere near $500M
Mexico definitely helps. My 4th gen Nissan Micra was built in Mexico and sold there as well (since Mx accepts CA/US-certified cars). But the 4th gen Micra was discontinued in CA in 2020 and Mx in 2022. The 5th gen Micra was never adapted for CA/US regulations.

Subcompact cars are no longer sold in Canada, yet they're still available in St-Pierre & Miquelon just 10km from the Canadian border. This is because SP&M accepts both Canadian and EU auto regulations, avoiding the need for automakers to develop a North-American variant to sell there.

Metrolinx submitted draft plans for the northern platform widenings to the City of Toronto in 2025. Here's a diagram by @wb62.bsky.social that is a more legible illustration of Metrolinx's architectural drawings. The plans are heavily compromised for Via and completely unsuitable for Alto.
Metrolinx is currently widening the south platforms as part of a massive reconstruction project. Once those platforms reopen, the northern platforms will start to be consolidated to triple their widths and double their passenger circulation capacity.

Look at the GPS log for any train on the line. They all crawl at 30mph (48km/h) the whole way to N Hamburg then 88 km/h to Stratford. Trains haven't reached 70 mph since 1996 when a blanket 60mph slow order was added. Over the years the speeds have been reduced as the track deteriorates.
Unfortunately the bollards also extend across the bike path, creating a new hazard for anyone travelling along the path.

Interestingly all the hydro plants in town are owned by the City of Ottawa, so the Ontario side controls all the electricity generated in town even though half the river is in Québec. Though it's not a big deal since Québec has so much hydro elsewhere anyway
Yeah I usually figure subtract a minute from GO when comparing its schedule to UP. Otherwise it would be crazy that eastbound UP trains are scheduled to arrive at Union just two minutes after GO local trains on the same track.
Passing opportunity isn't an issue. If they wanted more headway the new train could depart Union a few min later. There's a 3rd track Malton-MtD but it's occupied by the EB express train arriving Union at 09:17 so I assume it just runs behind the UPX train to Weston.
