The Aces High, Jokers Wild series has SO MANY SCENES of fighting the security and enforcement corporation that took over law-keeping and security work in the USA. Outsmart, outmaneuver, outfox is the name of the game. When the enforcers aren't there for the citizens, they shouldn't be there at all.

Last week, a federal court in Texas decided that going to a protest can cost you the rest of your life.

Maricela Rueda got 70 years. Seven others got decades. They gathered outside an ICE jail in Alvarado to protest the people locked inside, and the government charged them as a terrorist cell.

Look at what counted as evidence:

Rueda wore black.
She texted on an encrypted app.
Someone handed out homemade zines.
The everyday things we all do at a protest became proof of terrorism, and a judge built a life sentence on top of them.

This is the first case like this, and it sets the rule for all future ones. If your clothes and your group chat can be called terrorism, any protest can be. MAGA wants the cost of speaking up so high that you stay home.

We won’t stay home. Sign on to demand Congress protect the First Amendment and defend the right to protest.

I've written lots of birthdays through the first series, but this is the first one in the new series. A big, important birthday!

I’m halfway down a slice of sun-pizza when Dad stands and waves his arms.
“Alright everyone! In exactly—” He checks his tab for show, “—twenty-five seconds Bunny will officially be sixteen. To usher in this momentous event, it’s time that she made her first official vote as an adult member of our community!” With all the ceremony of a knight out of long ago, he kneels in front of me and holds out the tab in both hands. Grinning and shaking my head, I take the tab. The app’s already open, showing my list of stuff I need to vote on this week. I choose an issue I already read up on: a citizen’s referendum on whether to release a specific insect that kills invasive puncture vine seeds before they sprout. I’ve read all the pros and cons and research material on this one already, so I know I’m voting Yes. Opening it up with a flourish, I look at the clock.
“Five seconds!”
“Five!” the fam choruses around me.
“Four!
Three!
Two!
One!”

For this, here's a snippet about sun-cheese!

“Nice!” I drop into the chair, and Dad takes the empty one on the other side of me. Pop passes me a couple slices of pizza. Taking their seat beside their dad across the table, Jen gives me a little smile, but their eyes are full of worry. They glance up at their dad, who’s sitting still as a rock. I do my best to grin for Jen, and bite into my pizza. The taste of sun cheese and tomato sauce goes nova in my mouth. You have sun cheese where you live? Carbon pulled out of the air and electro-synthesized into fatty acid chains in solar fermenters? I love the stuff. A pizza made out of it never tasted so good. Mom looks up from chowing down on her own slice, and shoots me a grin with tomato sauce on it.
“You want anything to drink while I’m up, Bunny?” Uncle A asks at the fridge, grabbing out a jar of beer. “Advocate? Kev? Anybody else?”
