Sautéed cabbage, onion and sausage! I love this recipe and it’s so easy. Overcooked the cabbage a bit because, you know, trying to make sure all of it got up to 158°. A bit more wilted than it’s supposed to be.
Simple dinner tonight: sautéed cabbage with sausage, recipe from the Kitchenista! I love her.
Yall. Wow. The collard melt lives up to expectations! Dang that was a good sandwich. Changes for next time: the Russian dressing is extremely spicy, I’ll make it moderately spicy; less butter on the bread, it turned out a bit greasy. Otherwise A+ no notes
Heard so many birds on our walk this morning. Many I see at home but many new ones: vireos, indigo bunting, summer tanager, blue grosbeak, yellow billed cuckoo! Wish I’d seen the indigo bunting but the tanager was the only one I definitely saw. We were at the Few Ford entrance to the Eno park
I just noticed in the photo how Coco’s harness is sliding to the side. She’s lost a lot of weight since she got sick, I guess it’s too loose now. Need to fix that
Before the all day cooking I got up early and took the dog for a walk! The prednisone is causing muscle loss & frequent falls, we think a little exercise will help and she has a bit more energy now so we think she can handle it. Not as much as before she got sick but still, it’s a good feeling!
Dang, washing and chopping that many collards took a long time. But they’re on the stove finally, just need to let them simmer for 3 hours
Making something special today: the “collard melt sandwich” from the Turkey and the Wolf restaurant in New Orleans. It’s a triple decker sandwich with collards, coleslaw, spicy Russian dressing and Swiss cheese on rye bread. Step 1: make the collards!
Neighbors behind us have an L-shaped yard, the small side yard adjoins ours. It’s behind our privacy fence & hard to see from our side. Went back there this morning to do some pruning in the gap between fences and the little side yard is a field of tree of heaven now. Dozens of them.
While cooking I watched John Oliver’s third and final episode on General Hospital. Behold, he gets slapped by Carly! He said he wanted to either be slapped or slap someone, and he got his wish! Dang I hope they make him recurring.
Pork with garlic sauce, and carrot salad! I love this recipe and the carrots went nice with it
They had nice celtuce at H Mart so I’m making pork with garlic sauce! No wood ears so I’m using regular mushrooms. Also making a little carrot salad to go with
Ok John Oliver on General Hospital is HILARIOUS. Clearly having the time of his life. He’s the ruthless head of a spy agency, code name Z. His “determined walk” in his first scene is so bad it adds to the hilarity
Coco had another blood test today. Her HCT is better, not radically better but steady improvement. We have to go back next month and if she continues this way they said we can taper off the prednisone. I hope we do bc the side effects are not fun for her
So John Oliver is on General Hospital and I have to watch it. After ~20 years I only recognize a small fraction of the characters and none of the plots. But it’s just like I remembered.
Tonight’s movie: Beyond the Poseidon Adventure. My pick! I put it on and G said “Can’t we all get beyond the Poseidon Adventure?” I love that man.
Yakitori, daikon cucumber salad and ginger rice! Everything is really good and easy (except for the part where we got rained on). It all went together so well and almost no use of the stove! Just One Cookbook never fails 😍
Grilling outside in this kind of storm, we are both so wet but the result is worth it!
The chicken just went on and it suddenly looks like the mother of all storms is about to start. My timing is impeccable!
It’s hot and I have daikon to use up so I’m making yakitori, daikon cucumber salad and ginger rice!
Google Fiber is finally coming to our neighborhood! Even better, they seem to be planning to dig across the street so they won’t fuck up our hellstrip the way the last fiber crew did
Ok this cobbler recipe is great. I thought cutting the biscuits into such tiny rounds was a bit twee but they were a nice size for eating
Homer has nearly disappeared into the hedge but alas, the sprouts are starting to go over (or maybe fall off? Hard to tell)
Cherry cobbler! The top looks messy, I rolled it out a tiny bit too thin and then I had a few too many biscuits. But cobbler is supposed to look messy!
Pitting cherries makes the kitchen look like a serial killer was just here
I have the day off so I went to H Mart and they had cherries on sale and I’m making cherry cobbler!
