Oh, it's #PortfolioDay eh? Well, here goes. My name is Owen Richards. I'm a 3D artist who does game characters and props as well as space art.
I love this era. Much like they went hog-wild trying to shoe-horn Gemini into different applications, there are so many crazy yet wonderful ideas at this time. I made a model of the Space Tug that was proposed, and of course, never flew.
I’ve been prototyping a 3D printed model of The Spar spacecraft from the recently recovered Dalek Masterplan episodes of Doctor Who.
I have been listening to this nearly non-stop since it came out. I fell like one of those culty people who can't stop talking about how wonderful the band Tool is. Everyone else is like "U Wot M8?".
This film. Where at the end they throw him in jail, but don't dispute that if he wasn't off his tits on a rollercoaster cocktail of substances, they would never have survived.
Finally working on getting the 'Dog Named Fate' CGI film on the go. I've rigged the protagonist - who still goes by the nickname NFD - Nasty Fat Dude.
Having a geek moment. I visited my Sons in Manchester recently and they took me to Fred Aldous and I exploded when I saw these. I used to use Dr. Martin’s to colour comics way back in the before times. He got me a bottle and it’s like finding they still make your favourite candy 40 years later.

My linux journey is progressing. I've had a few problems here and there. As a CG artist, finding something that will bake reliably and do textures has been difficult. Adobe says no to linux users. So far I'm using a plug-in called Mat Plus which looks good so far. Krita does what a lot of PS does.
Favourite sci-fi films that changed my life. One of these films is an 'easy' choice, it did have a profound effect on me, so I'm including it. The docking scene from 2001 was my generations Star Destroyer crawl. Mind. Blown.

Look at these stars! You can see a reflection on the porthole, this is an actual view from space of what stars you can see. Compare it to any sci-fi movie with boring little white dots. This is beautiful and amazing. Check out the colours and different sizes!

The Thing soundtrack is criminally undervalued. I still listen in wonder to Star Trek: The Motion Picture soundtrack. It's beautiful. The Silent Running soundtrack has a glorious 70's vibe. It's damn hard to top having Joan Baez do your intro vocals as well. Eat your heart out Mr. Bond!
