So... The effort to repeal Ranked Choice Voting in Alaska is apparently being partially funded by fraudulent Medicaid billings.

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Molly and Kyle Bates after investigators said they were concerned the couple might flee the country. Court records indicate they have not been arrested.

Kyle Bates is also among the largest listed donors to the Repeal Now campaign supporting a ballot measure that would end Alaska’s open primaries and ranked choice voting.

Dunleavy himself benefited heavily from unlimited donations to his 2022 campaign, including from his Texas-based brother, Francis Dunleavy, who gave him hundreds of thousands of dollars as he sought reelection. In 2018, when Alaska still had strict contribution limits, Francis Dunleavy and other wealthy backers of the aspiring governor instead gave to an independent group.

#akleg Dunleavy rolled over and let courts extinguish all campaign contribution limits in Alaska. Today, he vetoed a bill which would have reinstated them. Fortunately, a bunch of old timers went out in the snow and rain to collect signatures and it's already teed up to be on the primary ballot.

A proposal to impose campaign contribution limits was winning approval in the state primary election as of late Tuesday night, with supporters capturing more than 74 percent of the vote.

World Cup has done more for my global history awareness than any high school class. Whenever two countries play each other, I always find myself wanting to dive into their specific histories as colonizers, oppressors, and allies. Rooting for Portugal. Feeling very conflicted about the US game.

The Restoration War[7] between Portugal and Spain began with the Portuguese revolution of 1640 and ended with the Treaty of Lisbon in 1668, bringing a formal end to the Iberian Union. The period from 1640 to 1668 was marked by periodic skirmishes between Portugal and Spain, as well as short episodes of more serious warfare, much of it occasioned by Spanish and Portuguese entanglements with non-Iberian powers. Spain was involved in the Thirty Years' War until 1648 and the Franco-Spanish War until 1659, while Portugal was involved in the Dutch–Portuguese War until 1663.

In the 17th century and afterwards, this period of sporadic conflict was simply known, in Portugal and elsewhere, as the Acclamation War. The war established the House of Braganza as Portugal's new ruling dynasty, replacing the House of Habsburg, which had been united with the Portuguese crown since the 1580 succession crisis.[2]

Standing Together For Generations

Belgians and Americans have fought side by side and paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend freedom and liberty for generations, including during the fifth Battle of Ypres in 1918, during World War I, and the Battle of the Bulge in 1944-1945, during World War II. When World War I brought famine to Belgium, ordinary Americans led by future U.S. president Herbert Hoover, sent food and medical aid that help saved millions from starvation, and after World War I, the United States assisted with Belgium's recovery. After World War II, Belgium participated in the Marshall Plan, which helped to restore Europe's post-war economy. On September 12, 2001, Belgium joined with our NATO Allies to invoke Article 5 of the NATO Treaty - a powerful statement of solidarity with the United States.
