Lo and behold: Finally got to try the (in)famous Swedish pizza with banana. Not bad, actually!
In light of BP exiting the North Sea, I'm sharing this new piece on the 'late life' of fossil assets by PhD. fellow Ava Rawson. I have a bad feeling the BP North Sea will at some point result in the taxpayers having to shoulder the immense burden of cleaning up limn.press/article/susp...
VM-euforien viser at en annen verden er mulig 🙏 #transit #reclaimthestreets
Har skrevet en petit i affekt på baksida av Klassekampen. (For ordens skyld er strekningen Trondheim–Steinkjer gjenåpnet i dag og hvis alt går etter planen raser ikke den nye strekninga uti vannet)
Just passed below my favourite bridge: Hangarbrua is made from upcycled aluminum from the heli-deck of the Gyda platform in the North Sea. Now serves cyclists and pedestrians in Trondheim. So poetic!
Local elections are coming up in some municipalities in England tomorrow, while the Scots will elect a new parliament. Last week in Leeds I went canvassing with Cristiana Mirosanu, a committed trade unionist and eco-socialist candidate running for the Greens. Best of luck!
Ready for the 44th International Labour Process Conference in Leeds! Will be presenting on the labour of oil & gas decommissioning tomorrow
My morning got cheered up by reading about Australian unions putting forward demands for rigorous and timely decommissioning to create lots of local jobs in the circular economy – while also stating that the polluters should be paying: www.parliament.vic.gov.au/4968db/conte...
In his book Uneven Development, Marxist geographer Neil Smith described capital as a plague of locusts going from place to place, but today I came across another neat simile: Capital as a serial killer (from Burill & Penny 2025 www-taylorfrancis-com.ezproxy.uio.no/chapters/edi...)
TIL that fracking has been banned in the UK after causing several earthquakes. The responsible company was ordered to decommission the site by June 2022, but has consistently failed to meet deadlines since.
Recommend reading Malm & Carton (2023) on this dynamic (chapter 4 and onwards):
Really gives hope to hear the leader of the RMT deliver a clear vision for working class power in a fiery speech at the Pitman's Parliament in Durham this evening ✊ what a place, what a movement
Found a three year old opened Marmite in my new shared flat and I have to say: Surprisingly good!
Was browsing through rooms to rent around Durham for my academic mobility next semester when I came across the village 'Pity Me' :(
Marxist geographer Doreen Massey on the phenomena of science parks (p. 143 in 'for space', 2005)
Så får vi brette opp ermene for å få opp andelen ved Tiurleiken om to år!
I am also astonished that Colombian president Gustavo Petro has read the entirety of Marx's Capital three times! What's your excuse?
Was reading a dreary report on decommissioning technology when suddenly this little fellow appeared and made my day
A bridge to the future? What used to serve as a helideck for the Gyda platform has been converted into an aluminum-based pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Trondheim!
