I posted a thing on LinkedIn, and I really mean it. Very excited for this step and my biggest of thanks to each and everyone of you who has helped me along the way 🙏🙏
Final paper from our #assetstruggles special issue now online: "The ESG backlash: contesting the low-carbon transition under asset manager capitalism" by @jenmcarthur.bsky.social. The paper studies the contestation of "greening" infrastructure assets and the effects of the anti-green backlash.
Today in correlations that just make sense: Endness of history x Budweiser dominance
The ownership & management of financial assets is ever-more concentrated. This fuels systemic risk but occurs during times of growing risk supervision. In our new paper Hayley James and I address this puzzle by studying the rise of the so-called Master Trust. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... 🧵

The 5th paper from our #assetstruggles special issue is now online: Asset struggles and credit regimes: how dominant growth coalitions shaped credit policy and homeownership in Germany and Sweden, by @dustinvoss.bsky.social Check out the open access paper here: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
BMU macht jetzt auch einen auf #ichbinhanna: strukturelle Probleme auf die individuelle Eben verlagern und das dann allen ernstes "Den Klimawandel gesund meistern" nennen. Kann man sich nicht ausdenken!
One single company wiped out the GDP of Poland within just a week - surely this must be the most reasonable mode of valuation we can think of?
The "liberal market economy" in 2026 is market liquidity without market governance
Next up is @lacic.bsky.social, Felix Bühlmann, Sophie Serrano & Fabien Foureault's paper on (gendered) divisions in asset managers' "networks of interest defence". The paper finds important differences between mainstream and alternative AMs external networks & elite positions. Small teaser:
3. Conflicts in asset societies, by which we mean the different forms of conflict that emerge across analytical levels under conditions where asset income has become the primary way of securing social and economic reproduction. These are broad and variegated and we can only point to some examples.
2. Struggles between asset factions, which are horizontal conflicts between asset-rich incumbents. We expand the common distinction between listed and nonlisted asset managers by proposing more distinctions, such as temporality and volatility, and stress the importance of the source of funds.
This allows us to analytically distinguish three forms of asset struggles: 1. Assetisation struggles: vertical conflicts that emerge during the transformation of things into assets and between the economic winners and loses these assetisation processes create.
How does rampant #assetisation and variation in #assetmanagement affect social conflicts? Our special issue co-edited with @theobourgeron.bsky.social in New Political Economy proposes a framework to analyse such asset struggles and brings together 7 papers with key empirical studies. 🧵
Third paper from our #assetstruggles SI online! Mareike Beck makes the very important point that assets can also fuel conflict within households, often taking a gendered form not only because of the gender wealth gap but also because of qualitative differences in the assets women and men hold.
Second paper from our #assetstruggles SI now online: @hadoose.bsky.social makes the crucial point that asset struggles over climate governance not only include climate vulnerable & climate forcing assets – but that climate policy itself often takes an asset form, reconfiguring power. Check it out!
Maybe it is such blatant gaps between words and deeds that people are tired of?
Just saw that the first piece from our special issue is already out: Factions of asset-based capitalism: a historical typology, by @melindacooper.bsky.social See here: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... Will write a thread on the SI and each of the papers once they're all out!
Incredibly happy and relieved that our special issue Asset Struggles co-edited with @theobourgeron.bsky.social is now accepted for publication at NPE! More on the issue soon. For now: a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been involved in this over the past few years – you are the best!
