Due to an insane August schedule, I'm going to get #109Kirbys rolling a little early. I'll do 9 commissions of Kirby characters to commemorate the 109th birthday of The King and raise money for charity. I'll be taking requests with bids via DM for the next few weeks. When a campaign official asked me to donate this drawing I did to commemorate Obama's speaking engagement in my small town being cancelled by an honest-to-goodness tornado, I thought it was going into the archives at the Obama library. Baby, it's on display!
I went right up to my limit on this Toth masterpiece, but some rich person loved it better. Peak, peak Toth, IMO. Every panel is a graduate level course.

The final issue comes out Wednesday. It's been many years in the making, from convincing the filmmakers it could be a comic, to passing through the hands of multiple editors, and through painstaking production. Every drop of sweat paid off this weekend when a new dad told me it brought him to tears.

I have no idea what the guts look like (look at that line-up, though), but I've wanted one since this image stared out at me from house ads when I was 15. Finally got one!
Both fans and imitators key on the mannerisms of Quitely's style: full lips, pebbly mark-making, few spot blacks, visible seams. But those quirks are hung on a frame of high fidelity draftsmanship. The subtly receding shield and gestural hair on the nape of the neck describe the figure sublimely.
Art Market Report: Stuart Immonen, certified drawing god, remains the most consistently undervalued artist by today's collectors. Pulled this gem for 450, which is less than a lot of less-accomplished artists' commission rates. Wake up, ding-dongs!
So much going on at Comic-Con Cape Town that I'm having a hard time keeping up, but here are some of the sketches I've been doing, from quick remarques to full commissions.
