While Jurassic Park shaped my brain and influences me every day, two other perfect movies with Same Neill are Possession (one of the most brilliant, insane, can't-stop-thinking-about-it horror movies) and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (an incredibly warm and earnest Waititi film). RIP and thank you.

She Comes With Magic is an epic, raunchy romp for fans of high fantasy in low places. This is some of Sevy's sexiest work yet, and together with Porter, they have a genuinely funny twist on the fantasy formula that will quickly have you spellbound (or otherwise bound). If you're in the market for something new and very different, Phillip Sevy and Christie Porter have a new Kickstarter launching on Monday, July 6th for a comic called She Comes with Magic, and it's one that's worth checking out when it hits.

A big part of that is Sevy's art. They've cultivated their skills on some big properties like X-Men and Power Rangers, amongst a great many other projects, and they've long proven themselves to be an exceptional talent. But sometimes, talents can be restrained by the boxes they operate within, and She Comes with Magic finds Sevy throwing not just the box but the concept of a box in the garbage and just doing their own thing. It's an "erotic (18+) fantasy" that stars Maeve, "a tenacious pink-horned hero and a wizard of a rare variety" who goes on magical adventures built for fans of "fantasy, action/adventure, manga, TTRPGs, and, of course, smut." Yeah, that's pretty unique!

It's not for everyone, of course, as that 18+ label suggests. But the thing I appreciate about this is it feels like Sevy and Porter taking the idea of making comics for yourself to the absolute max, as it isn't just them doing a superhero story where the serial numbers are filed off or a pitch for some sort of new IP or anything like that. It's them letting their freak flags fly, and letting their storytelling sing in the process. This had to come from them, because who else could it possibly have come from? No one, that's who, and I appreciate that about the idea. So, if it sounds appealing, hit that "Notify me on Launch" button on their Kickstarter pre-launch page, or check it out on Monday when it rolls out officially.
