The red circle shows signs that fire is already in the loft, looking at the amount of smoke coming out of the eaves too. There's a ladder at an open balcony door into what looks like a smoke-logged flat. The brown bits are where the fire is travelling inside the, obviously water-resisting, walls.

The method used to protect timber in walls from fire is encapsulation. You put up a timber wall, cover it in plasterboard and seal it with plaster. Externally, cladding is sometimes used, and so is rendering, which is a bit like a thick layer of weatherproof plaster.
