I might as well get on the #Odyssey bandwagon. The enchantress Circe & her [implied] ex-lovers. [Briton Rivière (1896)]. With -pharmaka- drugs, & her staff, she's transformed Odysseus' crew into pigs.🫠 W/ Hermes' help, [& aid of the herb Moly]], Odysseus resists & gets his crew back: Holy Moly!🫣
I pinched myself every day for a wonderful 9 months of enchantment. Wooden beams on ceiling (now concealed. It seems to be an AirB&B😢). Also had roof garden w/ bell tower & 150 potted plants to water by hand.). Thanks for taking me back to Rome & days of lire (b4 latex paint).🥰 [Rollei 35 mm SLR]
That's what I was told from the Lady I sub-letted the flat from. (She had let the flat to another Fulbright scholar the year before. ). The apt. was part of 17th-century Palazzo Pio & had been remodeled in past (Addr Via Grotta Pinta 10, Int. 8; in portico, just where Cavea begins.)
Same thing happened to my apt. Unfortunately, from what I can see in adverts, they modernised it, hiding some details that I found so enchanting: e.g., 2 arches made from 1st century bricks. Still visible: views of rooftops; S. Andrea della Valle from bedroom!

I had this wonderful illustrated book when I was a little girl! I remember the caption to one of its illustrations: "A look, a kiss, and he was gone."🤗 The 12 dancing princesses was one of my favorite illustrations. The leaves of the trees made me think of emeralds.

I wonder whether the artist of the 13th-century MS illumination had seen and been inspired by the sculpture (although it was a common motif during the mediaeval period. @lightacandle.bsky.social @linda2.bsky.social @mdstamper.bsky.social I love how one of the Kings has wakened before the others.😊

Interesting to see an actual Etruscan depiction of augury. After watching the shifting columns of starlings swirling skywards, it's easy to see why the Romans believed in it.
I've always wondered whether they're really dwarves or is it artistic convention to depict -servi/ae- as "little people".
