here are shapes, in a screenshot that shows a lot of character, framed next to the conversation with a robot about the image. The robot, an LLM called Gemini, shares that the last prompt must have been idiotically heavy with spiritual meaning. The rest of the text cast in the right window is about the idea of a "Oneironautical Research Institute". It could be a simple dance of polygonal shapes in the sky, but the weight wants to suggest more. This place is so quiet, sensing that storm.

The conversation suggests that a phrase-aware LLM has given the user good coverage for a wild retreat into the subconscious, where ego is something to sublimate, and where imagination is a fuel that moves us not from form alone, but shape, intent, virtue. All of this, from Kate Bush's 'Running Up that Hill'.

This is Aughra, the seer and mystic from 'The Dark Crystal'. I remember the scene in her planetarium, and thinking "this is real, this is how the world tells the future" when I was like 10 years old. On the right is Scrutiny, perhaps a descendent. Made like watching the clouds, decades between.

Aughra is a central, wise, and eccentric character in Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal. She acts as the embodiment of the planet Thra itself. Known as "Mother Aughra," she is a small, three-eyed, horned, and often sassy creature who acts as the keeper of secrets and guardian of the world. She is a sentient, ancient being created by the world (rocks and trees) to be its eye and conscience, serving as a nature-god-like figure. She is small with goat-like horns, one detachable eye, and sometimes a third eye for peering into the cosmos. Every character in the movie has a full backstory like this, I recommend a deep dive and treating a watch of this to be in a similar headspace you might adopt to watch The Bible movie, it's an epic allegory like that.

Here is a doodle I made with nothing in mine. I simply start with a line, and add another until the shape is familiar, similar to how people watch the clouds on a nice day. Drawn with a gel-tip pen, a character with a similarly obtuse head shape and brow line to Aughra the mystic emerges from a background of differently sized circles, crowded into the background.

Because Adobe demands on dividing the making of things to the staging of things, I decided to start learning #Substance3D Stager tonight too. Love how real things can look using ray tracing these days, I haven't really put this rig to the test. #NoAI was used in the making of these images.

This image is a test of the chrome materials available within Substance 3D Stager. It is wild that you can buy a scanner that takes literal samples of physical materials and digitizes them for you, not only does it capture patterns but depth as well.

In this context, the centerpiece of the previous image arrangement is set within a gray void to help control the reflections of the chrome silver applied to the model.

Been learning how to use the Substance 3D suite in #VR tonight. Really feels incredible how much you can do realtime these days, like magic. Moreso than I imagined as a kid, even. #NoAI was used in the making of these images.

A few models I built from primitives manifested within Adobe Substance 3D Modeler. This is my first time using the app, I plan on making something in virtual reality with it eventually.

The image is a set of golden and burnt jagged crystals floating in a circular pattern, with depth of field focusing on one of the crystals in the foreground. No AI was used in the making of this image.

A copy of the previous image with the camera focus on an orange, plasticine object lit from below. Beneath these, golden jeweled and purple bumpy insect shapes gather in a circle. There is no ground, and only a mild gradient in the background to show context.

I've been really loving making stuff in #VR this week, using Space Elevator (Q3 - included in Horizon+ 'Indie Games' collection) & Open Block (free! Q3 store) as well as Open Brush via PC. Been also warming my room up rendering fractals in #Mandelbulber, like these! 12k originals by request

$A fractal image that uses a program called 'Mandelbulber' to render incredibly high detailed 3D fractal images. This was my first render, played with the settings until it looked nice to my eyes, kind of like a sheet made of liquid, floating in a blue/grey void with peaks and valleys that look a little like deep-space photography of celestial forms.$

An edit of the first, made more ghostly, with a different level of chaos sweeping the peaks higher into the sky, and with greater level of 'glow'. This one took about an hour to render on my home pc.

$Here is the third edit, within the program 'Mandelbulber' there are incredibly deep parameters, most of which are too mathy for me to make sense of... but there is also a 'material' generator section that uses terms I am more familiar with, so this is the same initial fractal space again turned, and made to look like it is formed out of glassy red liquid. 7k original available on request.$

Tonight's #VR #Chill brought to you by #UEVR and Keeper - played on PC w/ Quest 3 & Virtual Desktop. So many moments in this game are for appreciating. As a kid, playing games I could never get close enough to the TV, so ofc i'm an adult now that must be inside my games <3

A screenshot taken within VR, where this cave fully surrounds you. A great soundtrack that mixes the expected sounds of water, drops of it and streams of it, along with deeply echoing tones that sound like they're being played within the space is a very powerful vibe. The cave has a coral-adjacent look to it, with porous rocks among the walls. This game wins in so many ways, but it has gotten so much traction with me (i've played it for 60+ hours now) because there is a real sculpted look to it all, so little copied & pasted that so many games still rely on, not that there isn't any repetition, but there's so much beauty, so many points that look like they could be paintings that I'm still finding spots yet to be absorbed. 10/10 game, in VR with the UEVR mod or as a standard PC or Xbox game.

A second shot from tonight's favorite chill spot, a water-filled cave with sunlight shining in, lots of fish in crystal clear seas, waterfalls throughout, and coral-reef type growths throughout. In this part of 'Keeper' (PC game), you happen to be a lighthouse that became a boat. The light is the primary game mechanic. Pointing it throughout the world causes things to react, in gorgeous, surreal and sometimes silly moments.

A final shot from the cave that really shows off the sunlight beaming down onto the water. Spent maybe 20 minutes in here, listening, looking around, pointing my light at things (some of which are puzzles of a sort), and taking pictures.

This is one of my favorite sequences in @doublefine.com's #Keeper. Cozy + weird + chill taken to the limit via #UEVR. Play this game, it is one of the most goodest that I have ever played.

A screenshot taken within the game 'Keeper' by Double Fine Productions, played on PC via Quest 3 VR headset, Virtual Desktop, and the free UEVR community mod to be within this space. A bright and colorful sky with fluffy clouds frames a massive waterfall seen head-on, with a lift built between one side of the falls and another. In this scene, the player (played by a lighthouse turned into a boat through wordless adventure and journey) activates this lift, which carries a sort of small swimming pool from one waterfall to the next. Keeper is a work of digital art as pure as i've ever played. Beautifully detailed with a painterly and sculpted style that is constantly in motion, the player is constantly able to interact with this undulating, often rhythmic and fantastic game. I recommend looking into the game on Youtube, stills don't do it justice. There's a video covering the games' inspirations and it turns out this work of art was only possible by digesting completely a number of fantastic, often odd and barely for general audiences fantasy universes, the kind you grew up on (from around 1980-2000 in particular). Here the same waterfalls are pulled back further, highlighting just how MASSIVE the scale of the game world is. The approaching pink 'cotton candy' skywhale, smiling and surrounded by odd yellow wobbly serpents that coexist in this world, Earth far after humanity has left the planet. The creatures in this world feel right at home in their world, and so many react just enough to make the whole experience a cozy and surreal one at the same time... a bit like the best Jim Henson movies, truth be told. The skywhale approaches about the speed of a dirigible, and appears familiar with the way the waterfall lift can go up and down to make room for traffic between the sky and the seas on either side. In this shot I zoom out and turn towards the other side of the lift, just in time to see the Skywhale turn its' multi-eyed, happy face in the same direction. The lift is nearly at the other side, and will continue to raise to let this beast by. The effect in Stereo 3D, within VR is awe inspiring. Shot 3 of 4

Finally I pull back, a dozen feet above the falls to frame the Skywhale from the side as it floats through the misty waters on all sides. In these moments the sound is beautifully matched between the sound of the water and the soundtrack, inducing calm and mirroring the visuals perfectly. There is a presence in this game, vines -- spiky and blue, and evidence of conflict patterns through generations after humanity, in a number of moments, the game draws you close in to details, to notice that all of this debris, all of it -- it is our world, stretched to redundant ridiculous cycles in some ways, the planet reclaiming it in some, other life leaving their mark in so many ways too. As the skywhale floats towards this blue spiky bramble, the game causes me to pause and consider just how much any of us are truly steering the planet.

Fantastic game, from end to end (I mean LIFE ON EARTH and Keeper, too).

Been floating around the rings of #Saturn in 'Lone Echo 2' tonight in #VR. Truly a unique couple of games, fantastic acting and design. The game is being a walled garden. If you can, play this game. One in a million.

A shot taken in game playing 'Lone Echo 2'. You see Dr. Harlan configuring a medical device, while Liv, the scientist that trusts you as 'Jack' (a voiced droid) prepares to receive the treatment. The game has a very small cast, but each one is consistently well played, and just oozes craftsmanship and love. If I had a bottomless wallet, games this daring and beautiful would be happening all the time. Played on a Meta Quest 3 headset via PCVR and Virtual Desktop.

The industrial style design reminds me a little of The Designer's Republic, and the work they did on the classic 'Wipeout' racing games. Excellent architecture that feels intentionally designed to be useful in zero gravity. Building a game like this one must have been a challenge... There have been no other attempts in the past 5 years to do similar.

Another shot taken within 'Lone Echo 2'. Out the window you can see a tragedy that tore a space station apart around the rings of Saturn. The story of the game spans universes and the whole thing is done in zero-gravity. Playing it seated is pretty great, i'm considering building a harness to play it laying prone in a suspension apparatus.

You move through the world at your own pace in this game, and this is one spot where I just sit and breathe and listen.

Another shot in one of 'Keeper's magical caves - in this shot you see the Lighthouse (which you play, in the game - a lighthouse come to life) pointing its' beam at a craggy wall full of vines, and the light reveals something beneath it. Mysterious hints at a world before now, evidence of humanity hiding in all of these spots. 'Keeper' Has to be played to be believed.

A final favorite shot from 'Keeper', here we are, bird friend atop our lighthouse as it waltzes through a green grassy field on a bright blue day full of brilliant clouds and warm light. This is another moment where I just pause, usually within VR, and just look all around, sometimes for like a half hour. Very immersive, brilliant game.

Just brilliant in every way, Keeper continues to be a place I return to in VR.

A walking lighthouse stands amongst a sea of neon-green hand-like plants, glowing deep to bright green at their limits, illuminating a path through the golden haze of a deep cavern. Taken inside the game 'Keeper', on PC, with the UEVR mod.

Deep in the subterranean ecosystems of 'Keeper', the PC version reveals stunningly tactile topography. This VR perspective captures pulsing, moss-colored organic folds cradling translucent red nodes. Observed through a Quest 3, these "shinies" appear like bioluminescent fruit ripening within a living cavern—a hauntingly beautiful testament to Lee Petty’s pure, escapist world design.

Hayao Miyazaki, in the NHK Documentary 'Never-Ending Man:
Hayao Miyazaki', sums up the only important feeling I have
about Al, its' encroachment upon the human creative impulse
itself. After he is shown an 'Al Zombie' built to learn locomotion.
He watches his team present it, his eyes well up with stark dread, deep disgust ... and he says the experiment in Al was 'an insult to life itself'.

The moment ends with him saying that it made him think 'humanity is losing faith in itself'.

That is it. That is all.

There are shortcuts to manifest greater work creatively, and
there are crutches that rely on a recycled, mass-devouring of
the creative works already out there ... and I believe all people
will come to recoanise that is exactly why it sounds "wrong",
and has no impact or depth -- the depth was only available in
the context of the original artist's heart, their life itself, that
brought it all together.

Just as Frankenstein's monster was an attempt to perfect humanity by delicately using the flesh of the dead, so is generative Al a monster whose creators have no idea, no sense that they are defiling the dead, removing their imprint on society; to art, to culture.

They are freezing it, scrambling its' authorship and leaving us with substantially less than the sum of its' parts.

Keeper has me floored again, in awe. The world moves and reacts, patterns and detail in everything, from any angle. The entire team deserves whatever they want for the rest of their lives as far as i'm concerned... I hope we see more of this universe (in print + other games.) #Keeper #GOTY #2025

Another shot from the game 'Keeper' played on PC. The entire game world has a very sculpted look, in the making of, there is footage of the team adding such incredible detail with the help of VR tools that make this entire world feel alive and handmade. This sequence also features the player as a wooden Pegasus-like form, its' singular lighthouse eye aflame, wings made of tattered cloth. As you move through the world, the camera captures every moment perfectly, making my screenshot folder (playing w/ Xbox controller, using the game bar and button to capture while playing). The land is etched with right-angle geometry that contrasts with a natural, high-altitude setting where snow, ice and a purple to pink uv light is cast over the place. At this moment it is the greatest digital artwork i've experienced, with a gorgeously atmospheric soundtrack and sound design that all feels both familiar and incredibly unique. If we made a satellite again, with the objective of putting evidence of our heart, our accomplishments and perspective for other life in the universe, I nominate this game to be the ambassador of humanity, of life on Earth.

The entire game is a work of art, the greatest escape.

My final shot from 'Keeper' by Double Fine Productions. Played on PC. This sequence is like a wild, spore-formed skatepark, with spongy, naturally decayed 'pools' that you roll around in. I spent about an hour just in this large room tonight, moving and taking screenshots. I have no regrets.
