That Maya Weug post is just adding more proof to what has been obvious since practically this series started: F1 Academy is failing at doing what it said it was gonna do. You can pretend otherwise but the Disney, Hello Kitty, Lego, etc partnerships are not actually gonna be what gets women into F1 or even F2 or F3. And as much as I understand it's not entirely the fault of everyone involved in F1 Academy, there's clearly so much work to be done regarding how the series works and I feel like I'm seeing all that work being put into things like fashion collabs instead

I'm 100% aware not every penalty Lewis has been given recently has been totally on him or on him at all but mistakes like this one, assuming nothing was wrong with some sensor a la Monaco...

The way a certain publication that has the letter R as their symbol has been writing about the Charles and Oscar incident in Spa you'd think that Charles killed the grandmas of everyone who works there

#the stewards admit an ERROR #and then you read the article and all they have is the stewards apparently saying it LIKELY should have been a penalty #do you know what likely means??? #anyway unprofessional at best #let me not say what it is at worst

Every week I see posts talking about how Charles is not as present on social media anymore and is less "real" and people wondering why... His own fans are spreading lies about his wife leading to massive harassment campaigns and her getting death threats and you can't put 2 and 2 together??? You guys are lucky he even interacts with his fans at this point.

Oh and btw, in all my years of being a F1 fan, and especially in online spaces, I've rarely seen someone get as much hate as Alexandra does. There's no "Oh but she's a millionaire", "Oh but she married a rich man" that can save you here... You guys are genuinely crazy towards this woman and you need help and for your sake you should probably seek it before a lawsuit seeks you first.

Being a MotoGP fan that only started watching after the Vale v Marc days is really funny because most of you just sound absolutely insane to me.

I'm reading takes like "Oh my god I can't believe Pecco was able to break out of the brainwashing spell that Vale had him under and made him hate Marc" and my only reaction is:

The tumblr take

Charles fans are so used to the miracles he pulls being so out of this world that people think phenomenal things he manages to do are "bad performances" just because they're not a pole or a win.

Charles is on his 3rd weekend of using brakes different from the ones he's used this entire week. He's 3 tenths off pole, ahead of a Mercedes. Last week he had a pole if the FIA knew their own rules!

Of course I'd much rather be celebrating poles and wins as opposed to the progress Charles is making adapting to brakes he should have never been put in the position of having to adapt to, but that fact doesn't mean I can't praise the incredible effort and work he's putting into turning this situation around, or that I'm gonna criticize him because "how dare he embarass me with a P4!!!!"

I'm gonna use Lewis' most recent merch drop as an example but this applies to any driver: If you're gonna feature your fans in a campaign for your business, please have a team or at the very least someone, anyone, take a look at their digital footprint first, because I'm sure you don't want someone who's been caught making inappropriate comments about minors working for you as a model!

Let's talk about Ferrari conspiracy theories

Ok idk what's going on with my asks but I've gotten 3 of them in the past couple hours about the same topic so I'm just gonna make one post about it:

Ferrari isn't applying some sort of shadow team orders to benefit Lewis. Ferrari has been extremely incompetent with Charles and sometimes incompetence, even if one driver is suffering more from it, is just incompetence.

There was an obvious mistake with an update on the car (likely with the software) that affected Charles' brakes but not Lewis'. That sucks, it sucks really badly, but we don't need to make it suck even more by spreading conspiracy theories that Ferrari knew fully well the update was gonna have a negative impact on Charles.

As for things that have happened during races, for example in Monaco with Charles basically serving Lewis' penalty too, even with all the improvements, which absolutely exist, that Ferrari has made over the years, the team still at times struggles with managing two drivers and quick decision making, so I don't think there's anything more than that happening there either.

I know "Ferrari was just really stupid" is not always the easiest answer to handle but conspiracy theories don't help anyone or anything.

I wanna develop my previous post more because it was a bit too focused on the dramatics.

I think taking any big conclusions, negative or positive, from one race is never ideal. So when I'm asking "Where is Ferrari's championship fighting car?", I'm not saying all of Ferrari's races will be like Austria where we lose points to both Mercedes, but the key element when you are the chasers in a title fight is consistency, and Ferrari immediately failing in that department in the first race after a win may not make me worry about Austria being the standard but it makes me worried about it not being an exception. Looking at the positions Ferrari and Mercedes are in, Ferrari can't really afford more Austrias.

My original point regarding the possibility of Ferrari applying team orders is that this conversation is simply stupid to have until Ferrari actually starts showing consistency in their chase. Team orders don't put a Ferrari in front of a Mercedes today. And full disclosure, I don't agree with the idea of team orders even if Ferrari starts showing consistency. There's no "BUT IF IT WAS CHARLES" here. One of Ferrari's biggest strengths is the driver duo they have on their hands. Charles may not really be in the fight at the moment but Ferrari should be doing everything to bring him to the fight while keeping Lewis there. Ferrari needs their odds as high as they can possibly be, taking one car out of a fight where there are two Mercedes, in my opinion, is deliberately lowering them.

It's absolutely true that Ferrari needs good driver management if they want to take these titles away from Mercedes' hands, but completely sacrificing the season of one driver isn't good driver management.

I hope that Aprilia's appeal isn't successful tomorrow. This has to be the standard when a rider puts their hands on a marshall, be it shoving, slapping, it cannot be accepted.

On another note, for the love of god, do not use this very serious situation for fanwars. Not only is it not what matters here, at all, but a good amount of the MotoGP riders have unfortunately done similar things before so these morality olympics make you look very goddamn dumb.

Decided to go into this a bit more on Tumblr

Getting really exhausted with how carelessly pundits talk about things like a driver's mentality and how they keep crossing the very fine line between mentality and mental health. Because of that very fine line, you have to be very careful with the words you use and Nico Rosberg today, talking about Charles, was anything but careful.

There's a world of difference between saying "Charles has had quite a few bad weekends in a row, that can get to you" and using terms like "really tough mentally" and "super dark". I think the implications of using words like "super dark" should be very clear to everyone.

And for the record, I think there's nothing going on with Charles mentally other than "THIS SUCKS" but that does not give anyone the right to voice any sort of assumptions regarding his mental health, not even Nico Rosberg or any of these former drivers that don't seem to understand they didn't become mind readers just because they were on that grid for a few years.

It's a shame how often this has happened the past few years, in general but very much with Charles specifically too, and there are never any consequences. Unfortunately, don't think it's gonna be any different this time.

My take on Tumblr

Part of being a F1 watcher is accepting that rarely is this sport fair but god I really can't think of another word to describe what has been happening to Charles lately other than "unfair". 2 race weekends of having a bad Saturday, coming back on Sunday and not putting a foot wrong, only to be rewarded with 2 DNFs he couldn't possibly do anything about. There's no "He's error prone", "He's crash prone". On his side? This is purely and simply unfair

The way there are Charles fans out there who are always salivating at the first opportunity to drag him down so you can earn a gold star from other fanbases who hate him is PATHETIC. For the love of god, stop being fans of this man, YOU DON'T LIKE HIM.

I'm not trying to argue for never criticizing Charles, but some of you take it so unbelievably far. And what's the need? Genuinely, when the driver you rep is maybe the most self critical person on that grid, what's the need?

It's also just genuinely sad to see that when Charles has a really hard crash that could have actually hurt him a large percentage of his fanbase can't even bother to pretend to care about him being fine, no it's an immediate jump to insults and bringing things from his personal life into the conversation, like those have anything to do with well ANYTHING.

Seriously with a fanbase like this, who needs haters?

My PSA of the day is that Charles was not dumb for choosing to stay with the brakes he had been using his entire career just because people think it's reasonable to expect him to predict issues that only started showing up 2 race weekends later and that took another race weekend to get even worse. And no, Charles using Brembo brakes all this time is not the reason he doesn't have better stats. If only the solution were that simple.

I missed this yesterday. Charles did say he didn't want the brakes changed in Monaco and I think that's reasonable so I don't know if he was mad at anything specific other than he was driving a car with several non functioning brakes... WHICH IS A PRETTY GOOD REASON ON ITS OWN
