I think the 2nd Lucy Show album Mania, is actually the superior one, it’s just a little more of a grower. A post-punk The Byrds meets The Church. Both LPs are great imo.
A book that surprised me, Woodcutters by Thomas Bernhard. A hilariously mean Viennese writer and art critic thinks about his life at a party for a dead friend. Funny and cutting for the first half, kind of incredibly moving for the second. Expected it to be dry but eagerly plowed through. Big rec.
June Reading List 2026. Finished the Dark Tower series in a fit of malaise and exhaustion, time to move on! Angela Carter, of course, is the bomb. Vonnegut's Jailbird surprised me by being better than remembered. Slowly working my way through Christopher Moore. Fun stuff. Death Note too, clever.
Watched Iron Lung. Pleasantly surprised, seems very French. Had it in the background and gradually tuned into it. It's like a one-man stage play titled Evil Solaris, but also feels like a pretty nautical PC game. Slow but neat, weirder are more cosmic than expected.
Really take for granted that the Au Pairs are one of my favorite bands, have listened to all their songs a million times, and haven’t thought much about how their values may not be shared by the people around me. It’s ok Lesley, you are my pop idol.
Three Rocks: The Story of Ernie Bushmiller by Bill Griffith. A fascinating example of a visual artist doing a stylized biography of another and exploring how their philosophies react. A surprisingly literary exploration of the medium as whole.
An enduring legacy of He-Man is, of course, the cameo appearance by the Buzz-Off and Skeletor figures in the movie House.
May Reading List 2026. Less ambitious perhaps, a lot of mid genre stuff. Not a bad thing! Handling the Undead, Flybot, and The World Wasn’t Ready For You are some recs here. Surprisingly enjoyed Interior, Chinatown (not like the show at all). Most of my energy went to Dungeon Crawler Carl, worth it.
I developed an appreciation for Mexican R&B by The Stairs, a pre-britpop album that gives a mix of 60s British blues rock; the Stones, Them, some early Pink Floyd. An easy album to under appreciate.
Seriously, I think Renate Reinsve's character in Backrooms has a really nice outfit. It's business casual but feminine, autumnal, could be 70s or 90s. It's a nice look.
I love the mildly disturbing insurance woman from Buffet Infinity, an unnerving horror comedy told entirely through commercials. Weird Fun!
April Reading List 2026. Almost forgot. A little uneventful. Finally read Wuthering Heights, it was weird/long/depressing. Mirrored my own isolation a little more than I'd like. Some good horror books, I'll make another post, who cares. No comics, I started a couple longboys and didn't finish.
