@pompoustakes
markets, economics & politics quack
If this is the contentious quote, I assume there's strong feeling that it is wrong to claim that a) Europe (& the UK) has a broadly Christian cultural heritage and that b) most Europeans (Brits) would prefer that that should be retained? Or am I missing something?
The Royal Navy should maybe get the Chinese to do the aircraft carrier screws and prop-shafts (which are just bits of metal it keeps screwing up) but perhaps not its spy cameras.
I'd just note I have little idea what (plausible & realistic) thing she thinks she wants to do...which may be why she might not want to be CX. Things like this, as someone who knows a bit about gilts and markets seem comically naive.
And was this pompous take from back then unfair and need updating given the way things are panning out?
The context here is residential construction. Ask any 'housebuilding' ceo what's the land bank like? and they aren't going to be confused. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/65548e...
Interesting to note that it is claimed that in 2016 it had to be explained to DJT that use of nuclear weapons wasn't something you could just do. Most people interested in geo-politics quickly understand that point, and why. This guy, as POTUS, seemingly had to have it explained to him.

Can you help us understand why it is that, if shareholders have enjoyed such a good investment as you suggest, the chart of the Dow Jones Airlines Index looks like this...? While the index for the whole Dow Jones Industrials index looks like this...? Aren't airlines just a crap investment?
Andy Burnham is causing mayhem in the German and US government bond markets.
Thanks. Tho Manc is significantly in hock to lenders - been integral. And not so much "bond markets" thru reasoning like below - not a national option. It's difficult to understand whether he was being Germanic, thought bond investors don't read the NS, or thinks they don't understand investment.
If you're a journalist commenting on Starmer, Reeves, Streeting & Burnham and you don't understand this graph, please STOP commenting about Gilt yields. There's no shame in asking, people will help you understand.
Can you tell, by looking at the movements of these 3 government bond market yields over the last week, which colour of line represents the collapsing Gilt market and spiking yields in response to Starmer and Reeves being on the ropes?
So you've got 1) this (stagnationary turmoil) 2) many more things go boom than last time 3)"oh, go on then! you can have the enriched uranium and we'll give up terrorism financing and extorting shipping if you go away" ...and the markets seem to be going "zzzzzzzzzzzzzznumber3"
The political class presumably are no less gullible than the average 17 year old filling out a ucas form. I mean, this guy is a professor, so an expert to be respected.
Nobody cares about them and nobody's talking about them......just the President.
This used to be a highly paid industry employing very bright graduates.
Capability which could be traded to Iran, presumably. A threat which could perhaps go away if traded for support for Ukraine?
Shocking for a guy with a reputation for default, bankruptcy and such an appetite he tends to lob in a hand grenade and say "you guys sort it out". Nobody could have foreseen this.
Historians will marvel at the way the United States of America became Millwall Football Club.
What absolute morons. It was widely known Iran was likely to close the Strait of Hormuz if attacked in a significant way. The Pentagon knew that. Everyone did. For ages. Who exactly, just decided their hunch Iran wouldn't bother 'cos it would *cost them a lot of money* was a dead cert?
Unlike '08 - an abrupt shortage of paper - the problem with this is Fed & Treasury can't just get together and print a ton of the thing that's gone missing - or as Bernanke preferred "drop dollars from helicopters" If successful attacks continue Treasury underwriting would be pushing on a string.
No point in not just drawing straight lines on a chart with something that trades on nothing but sentiment... Resistance around 69,000 & 64,500 Support around 55,000 (rising trend line) & 50,500 (flat)
