I had a great time with this. Definitely a marked improvement over the previous entry, in my humble opinion.
Privileged white people will never beat the allegations that they are desperate to see themselves portrayed as victims. Especially not with headlines like these.
I was lucky to be exposed to this “vintage” album a few weeks ago when it served as pre-show music at a Shawn Colvin concert. I registered the voice from a Craig Armstrong mix of the song “Let’s Go Out Tonight”, which is a beautiful favorite. Nothing here disappoints, though.
I watched the original consistently as a younger adult, but I didn’t give it the credit it deserved for teaching me the values I would prize most in myself now. This reboot is reminding me. We may live in dark times, but kindness, empathy, and fellowship are often closer than we perceive.
Holding space for this incredible album on this, one of our nation’s darkest days.
