Cornish Hedgehog Rescue admitting 1,400 hedgehogs a year and rehabilitating through to release back into the wild. Registered Charity No. 1174597 🦔🐾
Gecko is getting stronger by the day! 💚He’s even started trying to self-feed! 🥹 He’s not quite taking in enough by himself yet, so we’re still giving him a helping hand, but this is such a positive milestone and a big step in the right direction. Keep going, Gecko! 🫶✨
Biscuit taste test! 🦔🐾 We currently have over 100 hoglets of varying ages in our care, each one needing specialist care, food, warmth and support until they’re ready for life back in the wild 🫶
Meet Lynx 💚🦔 One of 8 new admissions yesterday, Lynx was found out alone in Trevone. He’s now safely settled into an incubator and is already self-feeding 🙌
600 admissions and counting! 🦔 Meet Clyde, our 600th admission of the year! 👋 We now have over 140 hedgehogs in our care, with admissions running almost a month ahead of last year. Please help if you can 💚 pricklesandpaws.org/donate
New admission Javelina taking a hand feed of Oralade rehydration solution. We are being inundated with weak and dehydrated hoglets 🥺
Meet Pie, one of several hedgehogs we’ve been treating for ringworm. She’s now completed treatment and her prickles are growing back fast! 🙌✨ Want to help hedgehogs like Pie? Our virtual gift helps support their care and treatment. 🎁 www.pricklesandpaws.org/shop/virtual...
Our first admissions of the day: Tom & Jerry 💛 These two siblings were found during the daytime in Tregony with no sign of mum or other siblings. After waiting and monitoring the area, it became clear they needed help, so they’re now safe in our care.
Release day for Picnic! 👏 Found dehydrated & weak, just 10 days later she’s fighting fit.Released within her home range with a nest box, food & water if she needs it. Huge thanks to Star Refuse Collection for sponsoring her hutch! Wait until you meet the hutch’s new occupants!👀
Meet Gecko! 🦎💚 When he was found, he was incredibly weak and severely dehydrated. After 48 hours of hand-feeding, he’s regaining his strength and has started to feed himself! 🙌
So many hoglets! 🦔💚 Meet Scooby and Shaggy. They’re a little way behind their sisters, Velma and Daphne, but they’re making steady progress and slowly catching up 🫶
Cream wasn’t very interested in being weighed today… she was much more interested in redecorating! 😂 Apparently the blue roll lining the scales was exactly what her nest needed. Who are we to argue? 🏡✨
Great to see Spock out eating! 💚🦔 He’s is being treated for ringworm on his legs and underside. Despite his challenging start, he’s growing stronger every day. Spock is much smaller than his siblings—Rock, Paper, Scissors and Lizard—so he’s recuperating in his very own incubator 🫶
The Magic Roundabout boys graduated to a hutch yesterday afternoon! In just two weeks with us, these little lads have more than doubled their weight. They’ve still got some growing to do before they’re big enough for release, but this is a huge milestone 🙌
Little Cheesecake has been working on her nest-building skills! She is currently being treated for pneumonia and is stable. We’re hopeful that, as her treatment progresses, she’ll continue to improve and become stronger each day 🫶🦔🐾
We're currently experiencing an exceptionally high number of admissions and calls, but we're still here to help every hedgehog in need 📈 Compared to this date last year, we've admitted 120 more hedgehogs! Please take a moment to read our update. Thank you for your support.
Our other late admission was little Teddy 🧸Weighing just 119g, he’s now been reunited with his sibling, Bear, who came into our care the day before. Both were found out in the daytime with no sign of mum, but they’re now safe and receiving the care they need 🫶
A steady stream of late admissions yesterday… Meet little Sheldon 🦔 Found out alone in the daytime in Bodmin, he weighs just 85g and should still be with mum. He’s now safe, warm and snuggled up in one of our incubators 🫶
Release time! 🦔🐾 Snickers here headed off to one of our release sites last night. This beautiful big boy is now back in top condition after treatment for a respiratory infection. Wishing you a safe and happy life in the wild, Snickers! 💚🌿
Bread, Butter & Pudding! Keeping everyone entertained while their unit was cleaned out for the third time today! 😅 They’re growing so fast, and their appetites are definitely keeping up 🫶
We’ve started a new naming theme… animals! 🐾 And each day brings a new letter. Meet little Chimpanzee, who came into our care from Rosevean Vets in Penzance 🫶
It doesn’t matter how many bowls of food we give Bread, Butter & Pudding… They’ll always squeeze around the same one!
500 Admissions! Yesterday, Jelly and Ice Cream became our 499th and 500th admissions of the year. They arrived cold and dehydrated, so went straight into an incubator and are now receiving intensive care. Today saw another 14 admissions, meaning we now have 101 onsite 💚🦔🐾
Little Caramac is making brilliant progress! 🥹 She was admitted just 5 days ago weighing only 74g and was incredibly weak. Today she’s up to 123g and is self-feeding brilliantly! Every gram gained is a huge milestone, and we’re so proud of how far she’s come✨
It’s not just hoglet season… 🦔 We’re also admitting lots of adult hedgehogs, and heartbreakingly, many are victims of entanglement, dog attacks, or other trauma. Every small change in our gardens can help keep them safe 💚
Introducing Proton, Neutron, Electron & Atom ⚛️ These little ones came to us last night from Truro. They were cold and very weak, but they’re taking to hand feeds well 🫶
What a busy (and very long!) day! 🦔🐾 A late finish for the team as we stayed on to admit four little hoglets. We’ll introduce you to the Particles litter tomorrow! We now have a total of 85 hedgehogs and hoglets onsite 😅
We are a little overrun with hoglets currently BUT we also have a number of adults in care too. Party Ring is recovering well after treatment for a respiratory infection and internal parasites. He has a strong appetite and his body condition is improving rapidly as he continues to regain strength🫶🦔🐾
What a mucky face! 😆 Bazinga’s been on top-up hand feeds today as he’s still quite weak, but he did a great job self-feeding overnight 🙌✨
Today brought 11 new admissions, most of them hoglets 🦔🐾 That means we now have well over 50 hedgehogs in our care, and our team are working tirelessly to keep up. Every bit of support means the world🫶
Oskar one of our work placement students stacked the dishes out to dry and everything was lined up so perfectly it brought the staff far more joy than we’d like to admit! 😂🦔
