I've had the grand pleasure of playing with a similar setup once at a convention. Incredible that it's possible, but it SURE IS an early attempt at system link. Zero Tolerance gets eye searing eventually. Still cool tho.

IDK how familiar you are with Daytona 2, but it has 4 vehicles with different attributes and increasing skill floors in order to utilize them effectively. With the beginner car having low top speed but only requiring lifting off the throttle to corner and the expert car requiring mastery of the game
Once you learn how to tame a machine like this, you'll understand the difference between "Arcade racers" and "simcades".
Sega be like: "Wow! This game's incredible. Let's not port it to anything until the 2020s and lock it behind a Yakuza spinoff"
