Three cheers for the creative comic pair Archy and Mehitabel, a typing cockroach who can’t depress the shift key, and cat now in her ninth life! #Humor
You’re welcome, Tom! In the spirit of your interdimensional portals, here’s a photo I made a point of taking today of a space in Manhattan that my family and I know fondly as the Gateway. Thru on the far side is the Hudson River. Best shot first followed by less acute views of the cement structure.
Fantastic World Cup match—France 🇫🇷 vs Sweden 🇸🇪. 1-0 at halftime, France leading. Mbappe made a fantastic move and scored. France had 15 shots, many on goal, but the Swedish keeper’s been great—France hit the posts twice! Let’s see what happens in Half 2, and whether Sweden can score. #WorldCup
I’m following the World Cup matches avidly because I find it’s bringing the world to us in North America, with the games in Canadian, Mexican, and US cities; it’s brought a whiff of the international and cosmopolitan, an expansiveness we’ve been sorely missing these past couple years. #WorldCup
In an exciting #WorldCup match between the favored Portugal and underdog DR Congo, Portugal, unsurprisingly, scored an early goal, but just before halftime a DR player scored on a tremendous header and shocked everyone! Let’s see what happens in the second half. Here are pics of the scoring plays.
To Bluesky pals who are baseball fans, Dodger pitcher Yamamoto has not allowed a base runner through the first seven innings. 👀 🍀👏👏
I want to wish a Happy 30th Birthday to my talented son M. G. Turner! It's a privilege and a joy to work together. I'm also proud that his book "City of Dark Dreams: Tales from Another New York" will be out next January from DarkWinter Press, aka @darkwinterlitmag.bsky.social!
Well this is quite amazing. A hitherto unknown song by Ralph Vaughan Williams was discovered by a music librarian in London, titled "Before the Mirror," with lyrics from a poem by Pre-Raphaelite poet Algernon Charles Swinburne. Link below.
The book award goes to Michelle Adams, author of The Containment on educational equity and civil rights in the north, Detroit. #Hillman2016

A post for #EarthDay—here's a poem of mine called "Creature Comforts," about the human and animal kingdoms. The picture shows a screenshot of the poem, which was published a few weeks ago in @theseaboardreview.ca Seaboard Review of Books. Also linked to below. #EarthDay #poetry #NationalPoetryMonth

The second is "How to Remove an Appendix: A Narrative History of Surgery" by Stephen M. Cohn, MD, exploring the evolution of surgery going back to our earliest interventions against illness, focusing on one small organ, the appendix, which has been a source of illness and mortality for eons. #books
Delighted to share that Philip Turner Book Productions has licensed 2 new books to publishers. The first is "The Battle of the Book" by @rboomhower.bsky.social, a biography of a book, "The Death of a President, November 20-25, 1963," William Manchester's chronicle of the JFK assassination. #Booksky
Yes, he was very personable. I'm very sorry to see he's gone. "The Soul of a New Machine" was an era-defining book, in the tech world, and in publishing as it brought a new kind of narrative nonfiction to the fore—well, not "new" exactly, but newly re-discovered, with characters, dialogue, plot.
I’m glad I cld do that, James, and so pleased that as I had, you enjoyed Ben Yagoda’s novel "Alias O’Henry," which puts the reader right in early 20th C. NY. Btw, I’ve found other books from pauldrybooks.bsky.social very readable, like Wes Davis‘s Ariadne Objective, a corking, true WWII thriller.
I didn't realize this, Tony. It's a sad day. I took this pic in March 2019, about two years after the tragedy. My wife had an art residency in London that Spring, and the tower was on her walk to the Winsor&Newton paint company building from the flat they gave us in Kensington.
I hope you enjoy reading that essay on Clara Reeve by M. G. Turner, who happens to be my adult son. Btw, in January 2027, he'll be publishing a collection of contemporary gothic short stories, "City of Dark Dreams: Tales from Another New York," w/ @darkwinterlitmag.bsky.social. #Booksky #gothiclit
