Yesterday I finally finished wiring in the new front foglights & relay to control them. It was a whole-ass evening of making and terminating cables, weatherproofing with heatshrink and slightly suspect cable routing but I really like the end result :D Just the switch now Big fan of yellow fogs tbh

a few folks put that 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚 to use with little dash pockets, but the only one selling them is an old guy doing so via his FB page where the display pic is corbyn photoshopped as bin laden and a bunch of reform shit, so fuck that guy. In many ways, my MG is decidedly oldschool, even among its contemporaries it lacked common features like fuel economy display, but the most notable thing was that the passenger airbag was 𝓐𝓝 𝓞𝓟𝓣𝓘𝓞𝓝𝓐𝓛 𝓕𝓤𝓒𝓚𝓘𝓝𝓖 𝓔𝓧𝓣𝓡𝓐 and since most people didn't buy it, 90% of cars just have a blanking plate and a void

I did a bunch of work and now the rear bumper is back on... Also bolted down the front wings/fenders properly... Also finished the passenger-side fender... Also bled the brakes... Also cleaned the hardtop and added decals :3 Holy shit it's so close to done

I only recently heard of "9,9,6 working", which is companies forcing employees to work 9am to 9pm, 6 days a week, and in China is often referred to as a form of modern slavery... In the crunch for Red Dead Redemption 2 when I was at Rockstar I was working from 9am to 8:30pm, Monday to Saturday.

Y'all ever look at something and go "Fucking Hell, I did this"? It feels surreal that the MG TF restoration project is almost over. These pics are just over 3 months apart but in the process I've learned so much, achieved so much and made something really fucking cool... and I did it for me.

Busy weekend here! - Interior almost entirely fitted, got some final trim bits to do which are just waiting on me doing some wiring jobs first - Added a switch so that the cigarette lighter is no longer permanent live - Polished the plastic rear window to make it MUCH clearer - Stickers :DDD

More new MG stuff! - Pod Filter relocated so that it can suck cooler air from the side-intake/wheel well - Cleared overspray from rear light cluster & polished them up, they look niiiiiice. - Indicators upgraded to LED and relay changed so they flash at sensible speed - Engine & Gearbox oil change

Some stuff I've done recently: - Subframe built with new bearings, new adjustable shocks, adjustable camber, new crash bars, new wishbones, new tie rods, new balljoints & rustproofing - Subframe & rad put in the car, with coolant system in, bled & tested - Headlights polished up - New Brake Lines

the before pictures on these of course look bloody horrible. I'm not /jazzed/ about reusing the springs but they came out of the ultrasonic looking reasonably solid so they seem safe to me.

finally finished a job on the car I was dreading; assembling the coilovers from the reconditioned springs & the new spax shocks it's basically playing pop-up pirate with a crossbow. each spring is supposed to support 1/4 of a car and the tool used (spring compressors) are notoriously widowmakers

They're not really the best at anything, Slower than a 3rd gen MR2, Less playful and communicative than a MX5, Less refined than a Z3 and notorious for Head Gasket Failure, but they have great storage space and are fantastic all rounders. Plus a lot of their shittiness is also kinda charming.

The most recent job was the wing/fender, I stripped it to bare metal, used fibreglass to repair the lip (most of the metal evaporated years ago) smoothed it off with filler and resprayed it As a welsh, deleting the union flag was satisfying, but actually it cleans up the lines really nicely too.

I've not really been talking about it because I've just been cracking on with work but the car is really close to done now. Just gotta assemble all of the subframe bits, clean up the paint overspray on the other side, wire in my foglights and put the interior back together

Continuing my before and after pics, here's how that bit looks now it's been stripped to metal and had its first layer of underseal sprayed on (It's got 3, this rust encapsulator, then a ceramic anti-chip and noise insulating layer, then a final protective layer which is the nice teal colour :3)

Old Fucks regarded as passing down ancient wisdom in forums: You don't need to pay for expensive underseal treatments, you can just use old engine oil! It works just as well Meanwhile, how efficiently used engine oil actually stops rust:

working on the car has got me in better shape AND tanned AF so I'm feeling pretty positive about stuff rn ☺️

USA; Studebaker Commander: Put it on airbags, EV Swap it, do very distasteful paint, make every single person turn their head. A cruiser made as close to a lead-sled as I can get over speedbumps 2nd Gen Dodge Viper GTS: Actively fucking insane. The most apologetically American car I'd ever want.

Straya; Holden Sandman: It's a ute with a cover so already off to a good start. Party up front, business in the back, an aussie muscle car until it isn't. Those decals are factory btw Ford Falcon XR6: "What the fuck, is that a Mondeo?" you ask, before getting smoked by a pissed off straight 6.

Japan; Nissan S13 Silvia: Sometimes called a PS13, which I assume stands for "Proper S13". Hnnng I waunt it. Toyota Century: Japanese v12 with comfort that rivals Rolls Royce and reliability they could only dream of. Also wool seats instead of leather because apparently it makes farts quieter. 🤷

Former Commiebloc; Wartburg 353: The most An-Car ever. The pride of the DDR. Utterly without note besides being 2 stroke & going ringadingdingding :) Like a trabant but just-about practical UAZ-452: Van, 4x4, prime drone-fodder and ugly duckling, would be hilarious for offroading & green laning

Western Europe; (Kinda hard because in the UK we got domestic versions of most cars) 1st Gen Renault Twingo - Babie :) Also just be a practical nipping around town car Objectively the most friend-shaped car, if you've ever driven to europe the first time you see one it makes your heart smile.
