Stopped for a coffee in Mannheim while I wait for my train to Frankfurt airport, reflecting on a great #CodeConnect event this week. Best part - meeting #UI5, #SAPCAP and #HANA family friends old and new again. Safe travels back home, everyone!

The wide river stretches off into the far distance, straight as an arrow. It reflects the early morning blue sky which is heavy with clouds, some of them grey. Both banks are sloped and full of greenery.

A spring day, sunny but with some heavy clouds threatening a change in weather. The countryside (fields, trees, bushes) stretches out into the distance, split down the middle by the canal, flanked by the (dry!) towpath on the left. A handful of narrowboats are moored in the middle distance (mine is one of them).

Earlier this morning on my canal recce run, at the top of Hurleston locks. #UKCanals

A view from Hurleston Lock Nr 1, looking east. The sun is glowing hazily, still low-ish in the sky, there are no clouds, just a silver blue sky. The water in the pound below Lock 1 is absolutely still, no wind. The south bank of Hurleston Reservoir can be seen on the left, covered in grass which has recently been cut. There is mist rising in the middle distance, towards the bottom of the flight, along the tree line.

Seems quite a while ago now (was a long day!) but here's an early morning shot looking east on the Wardle canal #UKCanals #Canal

Photo looking down a wide-ish canal, water has slight ripples but is otherwise still, showing the calmness of the early morning. The sun is up, hazy and distant but already with a warm glow over the fields to the canal side. There's an old (1930's-ish) working boat in the middle distance, moored and with smoke coming from the chimney, drifting to the north. The towpath is grassy and dry - heaven!

Photo from the stern end of NB FULLY RESTFUL, moored on a lovely grassy (no mud!) towpath, with armco, and flat fields stretching into the distance, where a (Avanti West Coast) train runs across a low-ish viaduct. The late afternoon sun lends a warm shine to the photo.

I moved closer to the Bosley flight ready for my descent tomorrow and decided to moor here to make max use of the poor solar potential today. And wow, was that westerly wind (coming from the left of the photo) strong, the bow was blown into the reeds on the other side twice before I could tie up.

NB FULLY RESTFUL moored up alongside a relatively newly renovated part of the towpath, with plenty of grass verge and Armco on the bank. The sky is steel blue and there's a new barbed wire fence through which the wind was howling and blowing the boat away from the towpath.

I used to attend & often speak at O'Reilly's Open Source Convention (OSCON) back in the day, mostly on SAP topics, and ran a 640 mini SAP system on this tiny Sony Vaio C1 laptop which had no more than 256MB RAM. I had tuned the central instance parameters right down, but it still swapped like crazy.

Lovely. To accompany this, here's a photo I took this on my run this morning, looking west over the Cheshire plain from the Middlewood Way.
