14. Let's do my fanfic WIP, I'm doing a somewhat longer fic that's from Gemna's POV as she meets and mentors the boys. It's fun to see things from her angle and how she sort of "adopts" them/becomes a big maternal figure in their lives.

Gale turns his gaze to a spot on the wall. "Laurent was well regarded in the village—he lived a good life there. But I… I ruined it for him. I've been trying to find Laurent to return something the village stole from him when he was exiled."

Gemna can't hold her tongue any longer. "Is that really it? You've only been chasing your childhood friend for five years to return something to him?"

"Yes? That doesn't seem strange to me…"

"Idiot."

Gale snaps his head back towards Gemna, anger writ plain on his face. "If it's idiotic to try and right a wrong, then forgive me—"

"No, you misunderstand." Gemna rolls her eyes with a sigh. "Never mind. You'll get it someday." Well. Hopefully.

Gale leans a shoulder against the nearby wall and waves one of his hands lightly, as if to clear the air of the mood. "I have a proposition for you. Have you considered doing something other than being a mercenary?"

"I already told Gemna I wouldn't be a consort," Laurent says flatly as he gives Gale a vaguely annoyed look.

"…That… is not what I meant…" Gale bites back a laugh at the absurdity of the statement, then continues. "No, something that'd make use of your actual skills. Surely you're tired of having to go into hiding after every other job?"

Laurent huffs. "Yes, it is tiring. What do you have in mind?"

"I just…" Gale lies on his back again and throws an arm over his eyes, speaking to the ceiling as if it were his friend and confidant. "I just want to be near him. Do I need anything more?" Do I even deserve more? He left the last question unsaid, even though no one was there to hear it.

Regardless, Gale's mind responds with unbidden thoughts. About how Laurent's eyes lit up when he was happy, even if he wasn't smiling. How he would get shy if you teased him just the right way. How he'd grumble and sometimes pout when Gemna lectured him about something.

About his soft lips, about his beautiful hair, about his strong hands and the nape of his neck and how his voice would sound when he whispered his name—

Gale sighs, no longer having the energy to be angry at his thoughts. "It isn't as if they'll go away anyway." The ceiling provides no commentary, and the silence finally lulls Gale to a fitful slumber.

"There you are, Reyna. What took you so long?"

"I was having trouble losing Tataru," Laurent huffs. "When did she learn to be so stealthy, anyway?"

Kris turns from where he's sitting against a tree and looks at Laurent with a teasing smile. "Are you getting rusty, my love?"

"Would that truly be so bad…?" He sits down next to Kris, placing the basket in front of them. "Means that I don't need to do it anymore."

"That is true." Kris's smile becomes more genuine as he watches Laurent pull out some food containers. "Are we having a picnic? What a lovely idea! The weather is perfect."

Laurent feels his cheeks heat up, and he clears his throat. "W-well, you do need to eat, and I figured you could use a little more time away…"

Kris chuckles. "You're always so thoughtful, my love." He gives Laurent a peck on the cheek before picking up one of the smaller boxes with a grin. "And you even brought me lemon cakes!"

Kris glares at Laurent when his head pops out of the water. "Why in the hells did you push me!?"

His husband crosses his arms with a frown. "You were being frustrating."

Kris's eyes narrow as he treads the water. "What if I had drowned!?"

"You can breathe underwater. You're fine."

"Ugh! You are the worst." Kris holds his arm out. "Help me out, at least."

Laurent sighs and squats down, grabbing Kris's hand. However, when Kris tries to pull him in, Laurent doesn't move, and he huffs. "Did you think I'd fall for that?"

Kris pouts. "You usually do."

Laurent looks frowns at his bandaged hand. "Don't think I could even if I wanted." He lets out an annoyed growl, which makes Gale mirror his partner's frown.

"Did the gunblade backfire?"

"Yes… I didn't think I'd need those godsdamned gloves anymore." Laurent flexes his hand with a grimace.

Gale sighs. "You shouldn't go without protective gear, no matter your mastery of the weapon."

"The gloves are more of a hindrance than a help! I can barely move my hands with them on."

"And now you can barely move one at all because of the burns."

Gale frowns, brow furrowed. "I thought you'd want to go upstairs and rest. I was going to let you do the honors!"

"I insist you head up first, my love. I'll be right behind you."

Laurent's husband continues to frown at him before tsking. "I can't believe you can't trust my handiwork!" Gale climbs up two steps before looking back at Laurent with a smirk. "You've never seen sturdier stairs in your li—"

The third step gives way with a thunderous snap, sending Gale's leg through the resulting hole. He curses under his breath and attempts to free himself, but the second step groans concernedly under his full weight. Gale stops and is forced to look back helplessly at Laurent while stuck in the trap of his own making.

Of course, Kris is going to need a wrestling name. Why would he only go up there as Kris? That's boring, and everyone else has cool names. He wants one too! I imagine the conversation with Laurent went something like this…

"I need a cool name for fighting in the Arcadion! Let me think…"

"Why do you need a new name—"

"I got it! I'll be the Ravaging Gale! It's perfect!"

"…"

"What's wrong?"

"Do you really… want to call yourself Gale, my love? I don't think that's a new name."

"What do you mean—oh. Right. Let's see… I can be the Raging Tempest! Pretty fitting, right?"

"…Yeah… It's, uh, good."

Poor Laurent never knows what to do with his husband. Anyway—

Gale always found singing calming. Setting aside all of his fears and worries for a few moments to focus on the music helps him sort out his thoughts—usually.

His rather abrupt realization that night left him feeling confused and on edge, and he's sure the change in mood didn't go unnoticed. Gemna had remarked on more than one occasion that he 'needed to figure it out already', as if it were all as easy as walking up to his friend and telling him he loved him.

While Gale wishes for nothing more than to do just that, questions and worries plague him. What if it pushed Laurent away, or made everything worse? Gale wished that everything could return to how it was—or if nothing else, be able to sing forever so he'd never have to think about it.

But eventually, Gale finishes his song.

Early in my gposing 'career' I only took EC glam shots, but this set made me realize how you can use colors, specifically, of the background enhance your pics Also I learned about the 3-point lighting options in the middle of the set LOL that's why the middle one is so dark (omg this is from 2022)
