From high above the road this is what the Drive for Change looks like. Miles keep adding up as I roll toward the Wisconsin State Capitol, reminding everyone that people with disabilities belong in our communities, not pushed aside by budget cuts or weakened rights.
Day 3 of the 2nd Annual Drive for Change Another solid day in the Wisconsin countryside pushing forward to the Capitol. Every mile is a statement: We deserve real independence, fair pay for caregivers, and protection from Medicaid cuts + the DOJ opinion that weakens community living rights.
My advocacy trip next month was supposed to be for raising awareness of the lack of home healthcare access for people like myself on Medicaid and the low pay for home healthcare workers. I had no idea I would be changing my message to “Disabled people don’t deserve to be forced into institutions.”
This is the route I took last summer driving my electric wheelchair to Madison so I could raise  awareness of the lack of home healthcare access for people like myself on Medicaid and the underlying issue, which is the low pay for home healthcare workers.
