29. THE LAST SUN by K.D. Edwards - 3.5👑 This book had been on my radar for YEARS and the time finally has come for me to read it. I picked up the audiobook and while I liked it, and I think I'll give book 2 a go, I just didn't entirely clicked with it. I liked the characters tho!

28. SHADOW OF MADNESS by D. V. Bishop - 5👑 And the said 6th book in the Cesare Aldo series. I fucking love these books. Aldo and Saul get stuck in an asylum while searching for answers about his past. Then the murdering starts. Chaos ensues. REVIEW: queensbookasylum.com/2026/07/09/s...

27. CARNIVAL OF LIES by D. V. Bishop - 5👑 This was an audiobook reread as preparation for book 6 in the Cesare Aldo series. In this one Aldo goes on a trip to Venice and have to work with Contessa Coltello if he wants to save his own skin. REVIEW: queensbookasylum.com/2025/05/28/c...

26. THE BOOK EATERS by Sunyi Dean - 2👑 I buddy read this one with friends, and if it weren't for that, I probably would have DNF-d it. I'm sorry. I know a lot of you love this book, but it just annoyed the hell out of me. I get it what it was going for, but... it just really didn't work for me.

25. MORTEDANT'S PERIL by RJ Barker - 4.5👑 I listened to the audiobook of RJ's newest release, the first book in The Trials of Irody Hasp series, and I quite enjoyed it. It's a mix of fantasy and mystery with RJ's signature weird worldbuilding I love about his work.

24. DEAD AND BURIED by Michael Dylan - 5👑 Book 6 in the DI Simon Wise series. I fucking love this series. I have no notes. Go and read it. Review: queensbookasylum.com/2026/05/28/d...

23. FORENSIC HISTORY: CRIMES, FRAUDS, AND SCANDALS by Elizabeth A. Murray - 5👑 This is an audiobook from The Great Courses. I actually reread this, because I just needed a break from all the mystery and thrillers. By learning about real life crime stuff. Totally makes sense. Anyway. Recommended!

22. THE LIBRARY AFTER DARK BY Ande Pliego - 2.5👑 I'm annoyed, because this had the potential to be great. Gothic vibes, closed circle murder mystery, a creepy library. What else do you want? Relatable characters and a less overbearing plot, apparently. Review: queensbookasylum.com/2026/05/14/t...

21. THE MAN MADE OF SMOKE by Alex North - 4.5👑 This was a month for thrillers, for sure. My first one from this author, and I picked up the audiobook, which had a good narrator. I enjoyed the book, had some tiny gripes with it (hence the 4.5), but definitely will check out other books from North.

20. BLOODLINES by Peter Hartog - 3👑 This book had been sitting on my Kindle since *checks notes* 2021, when we did a blog tour for it. It felt like it was time to pick it up as I was craving some UF/mystery mix. Overall, I liked it, didn't love it tho, but it's still a decent first book.

Stop 1 for today is the Palm House which was a great idea to visit. Feels like being in a jungle and there are seats placed so you can just sit and enjoy the noise and view. Also, those leaves are bigger than me.

19. THE VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED by Frances White - 5👑 I'm going to admit, I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would. I wasn't a big fan of the narrator (listened to the audiobook), but I loved the story and especially Ganymedes. He was fun. Also, great worldbuilding.

18. HOW TO FAKE IT IN SOCIETY by KJ Charles - 4👑 I have yet to be disappointed in a KJ Charles book, so naturally, I very much enjoyed her latest. A newly rich gentleman knowing nothing about Society and a con man who needs money. What could go wrong? Review: queensbookasylum.com/2026/04/22/h...

17. THE PUPPET SHOW by M.W. Craven - 4👑 Based on the hype, I was prepared to get my mind blown. While I did like the (audio)book, and probably will continue with the series, it really wasn't as outstanding as it promised. I saw at least one plot twist coming, but again, it's a decent read.

16. DISSOLUTION by C. J. Sansom - 4.5👑 I don't even know how many times I've read this book at this point. I needed something familiar and good so I turned to the audiobook of the first book of the Shardlake series, which I can't recommend highly enough.

15. THE INSTRUMENTALIST by Harriett Constable - 2👑 This is a very fictionalised story of Anna Maria della Pieta's life, a famous violinist in the early 18th century. I couldn't stand any of the characters, and I was also bored by the end. I don't know, I probably had too high expectations.
