I found this image of a 14th-15th century hinge in the 'dictionary of French architecture from the 11th to the 16th century Vol 8' — Viollet-le-Duc, and thought it would be cool to reproduce in #Blender Fascinating book and we can now get it translated on the page fr.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:Vi...

This illustration shows an antique iron paumelle (lift-off hinge) from the late 14th or early 15th century, featuring ornate openwork plates terminating in stylized animal heads and a central barrel entwined with a snake.

Design features include pierced, decorative strap leaves (the fiches) secured with rivet nails. Terminal ends shaped like roaring animal profiles (resembling lions or panthers).A central pintle and barrel wrapped in a sculptural snake relief.

"... when the opening frames were of fairly great height (six to seven feet), the hinges were long and equipped with two spaced eyes, to prevent the warping of the wood. Figure 42 depicts one of these hinges, which appears to belong to the end of the 14th century or the beginning of the 15th. The pin is free between the eyes, as seen, and is adorned with a round iron tail coiled in a spiral around it. This tail is free as well. To unhang the frame, it is sufficient to remove this pin from above...".

I found this door elevation and outline on Pinterest and thought it needed creating in 3D. After some searching, the address is on Via Ercola Ciofano, Sulmona, #Italy, and still standing. #Blender

This is Cerrie Burnell. She's an actor and TV presenter. Try telling her she doesn't know what she's missing out on. She and I both know exactly what we're missing out on – we grew up surrounded by 'normal' people who had that little extra something. The difference is, hers was an easy diagnosis.

Dammmmnnn! Not only do I have a Discworld book I don't remember ever buying, but it has rules to Cripple Mr Onion compiled by Andrew C. Millard and printed out in 1996 –I think it was on a Wednesday.

The pleasure at seeing my 'talk like a Terry Pratchett Igor'* request to #chatgpt be fulfilled by the phrase: "The Moon Iſ a Harſh Miſtreſſ"* *that "ſ" is a 'long s' character, that looks to us like an 'f', resulting in comments by Stan Freberg about "the purfuit of happineff".

"Hoyer Script™ is a fresh redesign of Hans Hoyer’s Schoenschrift, a slender vintage italic with a calligraphic touch. This font should be used like my blackletter fonts. It means that the s-key is occupied by the long s, and the round s lies on the #-key. By typing N, o, and period plus activating Ordinals feature you will get an old-style number sign.

#Kiwi proper boot polish you can tell by the smell I dunno. Best boot polish ever, it's been going on my boots and shoes for the best part of 6 decades (thanks for covering the early years, dad) and now I have to pay 'Armando Legg' to get the stuff, because they don't sell it in the UK anymore. 🤬

Next. What do I do next...? Hungry. Eat Fruit Pig-dog! Wait, what? Shouldn't that have been Eat Fruit, Jerry/Fritz/Tojo/generic, not too derogatory term for whichever opponents the British Tommy was fighting this week in the comics of the 70s? Surely, Nazis wouldn't insist on vitamin C???

The same long, elegant room is now empty of furniture and seen at night. The pale walls, tall doorways and decorative mouldings are still there, but most of the room has fallen into warm brown shadow.
At the far end, the glazed double doors are closed. Their white-painted frames form a neat geometric pattern of small rectangular panes and tall rounded central motifs. Light from the room beyond shines through the glass, a subdued amber glow that catches the patterned divisions and hints at pale shapes on the other side without clearly revealing them.
To the left, an open doorway leads into a brighter adjoining space, throwing a vertical strip of pale light across the doorway’s raised wall panels. A glazed panel beside it reflects a faint version of that light.
The empty floor is dark and unobstructed, making the room feel wider, quieter and more expectant than in daylight. It has the atmosphere of a house after everyone has gone to bed: familiar architecture, but transformed by darkness and the light leaking in from elsewhere.

Spotted this 1881 'Amateur Work, Illustrated' Summer Fire Screen Templates on my FB feed, from The Time Travellers Rabbit Hole page. It needed creating as a CGI asset. Just for the craic.

Imagine a folding fan, as used by overheated ladies to, if you read the advertising*, communicate with sweaty gentlemen at dances, and, if need be, cool themselves down after bopping around whatever the equivalent of a handbag was at the time. One of those, anyway. Scale it up to two or three feet across,Stick a lump of carved wood in front and behind it. crop the thing in front of a fireplace to hide the hole. Bob's your uncle.

*apparently the language of fans was invented to boost sales – a leaflet with made up gestures was given away with every purchase, it seems.

I've just heard a delightful young person speak of "a fake pseudonym" in their tech video. Now. I know what they mean, YOU know what they mean, and I'm not intending to be mean: my brain is tinkering with pseudonym vs orthonym (false/true) and whether a second pseudonym would be the real fake.
