I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth this summer I swear, I’ve just been REALLY busy climbing fells and wrangling puppies. I have done some commission work as well, but other than that it’s been kind of a holiday - I’ll be back to art and whatnot soon enough. 😅

Vex grins back at him, at ease, as though willing him to come closer. The background is notably darker on Vex's side of the piece.

It is directly inspired by "Princess Tuvstarr gazing down into the dark waters of the forest tarn" by John Bauer, and features Koru, an original character from Per Aspera which is made by me and my partner Frey. The piece was done for the Original Classics zine, published by Lost Haven Creative Guild.

Suomaat by Tuoni Myllylä and Sari Sariola 🐈‍⬛ Another library find and one I'd seen before but hadn't had a chance to read before now. A fun, pacy romp through a house full of ghosts past and present, and the surrounding marshes with an Eldritch twist, setting up the pieces for a longer narrative.

Kuinka Valloiting Ranskan by Ville Ranta 🇫🇷 After the last comic, I stumbled upon another by the same artist through the library's e-book service and figured I'd give it a shot. It follows the thematic footsteps of Kuningas Menettää Päänsä, with significantly more confident strides this time.

Kuningas Menettää Päänsä by Ville Ranta 🤴 Another one from the library that I picked up based entirely on the charming illuminated manuscript-style cover. This one is bizarre as a reading experience, and I’m not entirely sure what the intended message was supposed to be, or if it succeeded in that.

Many stories in this were delivered in interesting and notably different ways to one another, which is always nice to see in an anthology. I liked many, but my overall favourite was the folklore infused Myling by Amanda Casanellas and Yossa El Said. Evocative, atmospheric, and thrilling. ✨

Hunger of Horror: Comics from Oulu Nordic Comics Competition 2025 🫟 Picked this up with a few other random comics from the library. A fun read linguistically, my Swedish/Norwegian is VERY rusty, but it’s cool whenever I understand a sentence without immediately checking the English translation.
