Citing the NY Post, Bild runs the following headline: “Infantino begs at the White House.”
Kicker Monday goes with “Heaven and Hell” “The 2. Liga gets going: Wolfsburg is the favourite but the lower house remains unpredictable - and a magnet.”
Here is the Kicker front cover. “The Treble Dream.” “Kompany & his Bayern team properly get cracking. In the end it should be 3 titles.”
The Monday edition of Kicker goes with „Schwarz, Rot, Klopp“ (instead of Schwarz, Rot, Gold - black, red & gold - the national team colours.) “All in - and with immense authority. The new Bundestrainer is to give back to an entire country the joy in its national team.“
Today‘s Kicker has “The Mammoth Project.” “On the look out for key players. This is how HSV is rebuilding. Why Polzin’s new contract is so important before it all starts.”
Kicker Monday moves swiftly on. “German football rankings. Almost no world class. The mirror image of the decline. Part 1, best goalkeepers & central defenders.” Also “the final, the analysis, the World Cup verdict.”
A bit on the late side but here’s the front cover of Kicker with the self-explanatory headline. “The dream lives on. After their comeback, Messi & co. want to defend their World Cup title against Spain.”
Still in recess after the World Cup assignments but will start to slowly get back to normal postings. Kicker Monday headline is “Applause and Out.”
What a fabulous way to go out here in Atlanta with a classic on @FOXSoccer Thanks to co-comm Rob Green for his spot on analysis throughout & Martin Keegan (pictured) & Andy Quinn on production. Lucky enough to have been involved professionally in every World Cup since 1990. 🙏
Morning from Mexico City. On comms duty at the Azteca later with Czechia-Mexico on @FOXSoccer at 9pm ET/6pm Pacific.
That‘s 4 games down for Rob Green and me. Switzerland ran away with it in the end against the Bosnians but had to work hard for the 3 points. Thanks for watching on @FOXSoccer Back up to the Bay Area for the next game tomorrow.
Kicker goes with “Kick off for the superstars.” “Eyes open: Mbappe, Kane, CR7 and Messi go after the World Cup trophy with their teams.”
Kicker goes with “Mission black, red and gold” to mark the Thursday edition on the day of the WM-Eröffnungsspiel.
Dropped anchor in the Bay Area which we‘ll be seeing a lot of in the group stage. Rob Green & I together on air for @FOXSoccer as we were throughout the Euros. Qatar-Switzerland for starters in Santa Clara on Saturday at 3pm ET/noon Pacific.
The gesture is nice at Logan airport but surely crying out for more creativity & international personalization! It’s not as though you don’t know who’s playing/coming here. This looks like it was rustled up in 5 minutes.
Kicker goes with “World Cup finally” “41 pages on fascination and excessive growth. Interviews with Pardo, Gündogan, Burruchaga & Barbarez.“
Kicker runs with “His Delicate Mission.” “Project World Cup Title: Is Nagelsmann up to it?” “Power Shift: This is how the youngsters are forcing their way into the team.”
Kicker Monday edition carries the headline “Neuer in goal at the World Cup: will this work out?” “The 40 year old goalkeeping legend on the verge of another cold start going into a tournament. This is how the test against Finland went without him.”
Quite surreal here in the Boston area in World Cup prep mode watching Scotland 🏴 knowing the Tartan Army will be here in droves in 2 weeks (while I head west). You will have to hope for a weather warm up though. Freakishly wintry today!
Later than usual (at my end!) the Kicker cover. “Starting signals.” “Völler backs Nagelsmann. Interview with Pascal Gross. On Sunday against Finland the penultimate World Cup test.”
Morning from Köln. Kicker runs with „Double-Jubel.“ “Double Celebration.” “Hattrick Kane wins his first final. After the Schale, Bayern also wins the Pokal.”
Paderborn fans welcoming the team bus as it arrives for tonight’s big playoff decider against Wolfsburg. Join us at 20:20 CET/19:20 UK/14:20 ET
Not on duty tonight for the DFB-Pokal final alas. Original plan was to be commentating for ESPN exclusively but for logistical reasons at the ESPN end, late switch to world feed commentary for this one was necessary. Watching on the ARD from the comfort of the couch in Köln.
Using the free day in Köln to go into depth on the first of my World Cup teams on the west coast in 3 weeks. Luckily it’s Switzerland, a bit like a home team for me with such a heavy Bundesliga influence. Think they can win Group B.
Good morning from Köln. The Kicker headline is “Landing belly up in the Bosphorus.” “Aston Villa destroys the big dream. Freiburg loses the Europa League final.”
Kicker goes with a play on „Riesenchance“ (literally giant chance) to describe dwarf Freiburg in the Europa final. “The so-called dwarf before the showdown: Freiburg and the European trophy dream on the Bosphorus.”
Always enjoyable covering the celebratory scenes and associated beer showers after a Bundesliga Meisterschake handover. Fun day at the mic 🎙️ with @SteffenFreund here at the Allianz Arena. On to the playoff on Thursday. Wolfsburg definitely in it. Opponents determined tomorrow.
Kicker Thursday is Kicker Friday this week after the Christi Himmelfahrt holiday yesterday. “Beating heart finish for 22 clubs. All or nothing. The dramatic last matchday in the top 3 divisions. The form, the mood, the prognosis.”
Kicker Monday goes with the „Jugendjargon“ headline of “Amazing bro! “In the Bundesliga teenage players are enjoying success like never before. A report on talent promotion in Germany.”
