I guess if you're a failed washed-up has-been media figure who has a history of saying wildly racist, sexist and homophobic shit then you should put your CV in to the Act Party. You will be accepted with open arms as a new MP.

In March 2009, Henry caused offence by pointing out the facial hair of female guest anti-nuclear campaigner and Greenpeace worker Stephanie Mills. TVNZ stated that it had received a "handful" of complaints. Henry stated to the Sunday Star Times: "I certainly have no intention of apologising to people who have written in and complained. The key thing to me is what a fortunate life they must have that they can afford time and energy to complain about such an insignificant thing."

In August 2009, Henry referred to homosexuals as "unnatural", prompting a complaint to the Broadcasting Standards Authority, which regulates broadcast radio and television content within New Zealand. In February 2010, the Broadcasting Standards Authority declined to uphold the complaint.

In November 2009, Henry sparked controversy when he called singer Susan Boyle 'retarded'. His comments led to almost 200 complaints to the Broadcasting Standards Authority and an apology from Television New Zealand.

In October 2010, Henry was again the subject of complaints after a live broadcast in which he asked Prime Minister John Key whether the Governor-General, Sir Anand Satyanand, was "even a New Zealander". Henry went on to ask "Are you going to choose a New Zealander who looks and sounds like a New Zealander this time... are we going to go for someone who is more like a New Zealander this time?" Anand is of Indian descent but was born and raised in Auckland. Henry was criticised by Key, Labour leader Phil Goff and race relations commissioner Joris de Bres. Henry later apologised for his comments. After initially expressing its support for Henry, TVNZ announced the following day that it had suspended the presenter for two weeks without pay.

Following the decision to suspend Henry, TVNZ continued to air a clip in which Henry referred to Delhi's chief minister Sheila Dikshit during the 2010 Commonwealth Games as "the dipshit woman" and pronouncing her surname as "Dick Shit" despite later being told …

Dear Cr Brent Weatherall

I saw your opinion on the homeless in the ODT and let me just say, as a resident of Dunedin and frequent voter in DCC elections that your attitude to the homeless is disgusting, despicable, and shows how utterly repugnant you are to your fellow human beings.

I am paraphrasing here, but saying that homeless people need to "spend their money better", shows how much of an entitled position you are speaking from, and how utterly clueless you are. As if homeless people choose to become addicted to drugs and alcohol, rather than social and economic forces pushing them towards that lifestyle.

I really hope that you are unable to gain any position on the DCC in the next election, because you DO NOT represent me, or any decent Dunedinites', views. We don't need entitled rich pricks hopped up on meritocratic fantasies on the council. We need compassionate and empathetic people who don't punch down on the most vulnerable members of our community.

'More tragedy' as five separate attacks on southern Lebanon kill nine paramedics and wound seven others, WHO chief says

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the World Health Organisation, has called for an end to attacks on medical staff after nine paramedics were killed in southern Lebanon on Saturday.

They were killed while working in the field in five separate attacks on Lebanese villages, Tedros said, bringing the number of health workers killed this month to 51. Seven medics were also reportedly wounded.

He wrote on X:

More tragedy in southern Lebanon today … March has been the second most deadly month for health workers in Lebanon since [the] WHO started monitoring attacks on health care in the country in October 2023.

More than 120 health workers have also been reportedly wounded since the escalation began in Lebanon on 2 March, overwhelmingly in the country’s south.

In Zoutar al-Sharqiya, five health workers were killed in a strike and two were injured, one critically. Two more health workers were killed and three wounded in Kfar Tibnit; one paramedic died in an attack at a health facility in Ghandouriyeh, while another was killed in a strike in Jezzine. Two were wounded in an attack on Kfar Dajjal

Health workers are protected under international humanitarian law and should never be targeted.

The US & Israel are playing an extremely dangerous game by continually striking close to nuclear power plants. Statistically speaking its only a matter of time before there is a radiological event. The UN nuclear watchdog said Friday it had been told by Iran of a new strike in the area of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the third such incident in 10 days.

Tehran told the agency there was no damage to the operating reactor and no radiation release, and that the plant was functioning normally, the International Atomic Energy Agency said on X.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi warned that any strike damaging a reactor could trigger a major radiological incident, urging “maximum military restraint”.

Smotric calls for Israel to annex southern Lebanon
Israel should emerge from this conflict with a “new” border with Lebanon starting from the Litani River, the far-right Israeli finance minister has said, in the most explicit public call yet from a senior Israeli cabinet member for seizing Lebanese territory.

Bezalel Smotrich said in an interview on Israeli radio on Monday that Israel’s bombardment of Lebanon “needs to end with a different reality entirely”, which includes a “change of Israel’s borders”.

I say here definitively … in every room and in every discussion too: The new Israeli border must be the Litani.

The Litani River is a crucial waterway that cuts through southern Lebanon, around 15-20 miles from the current border with Israel.

Israel claims that its strikes and incursion are targeting Hezbollah, after the armed group launched rockets towards Israeli territory to avenge the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader in the initial strikes that kicked off the US-Israeli war on Iran on 28 February.

But along with its continued bombardment of Beirut’s densely populated southern suburbs, the IDF has destroyed bridges, demolished homes and attacked other civilian infrastructure in its ground assault on southern Lebanon, displacing over 1.2 million Lebanese and killing at least 1,039 - including at least 118 children.

Lebanese officials have raised concerns that Israel’s recent attacks on critical bridges appear to be aimed at isolating the south from Beirut and other parts of the country – and suggest that the Israeli military is preparing for intensified ground operations.

Israel’s deadly attacks on residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure may amount to war crimes, the UN has said.

I'm currently reading Lair (1979), by James Herbert. The 2nd book in "The Rats" series. Mutant rats the size of dogs that have a taste for human flesh. If like me you often escape the world by reading I highy recommend this series. It's fantastic.

Donald Trump offered an ominous warning in his ongoing campaign to acquire Greenland. During his meeting with oil and gas executives today, the president said “we are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not”.

His justification? “If we don’t do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we’re not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor,” Trump said.

“So we’re going to be doing something with Greenland, either the nice way or the more difficult way.”

Trump repeated his frequent refrain that he “saved” Nato, while insisting that he still supports alliance.

“If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have a Nato right now,” the president said today. “But we’re not going to allow Russia or China to occupy Greenland, and that’s what’s going to happen if we don’t.”

A book of art history, The Boy (2003) — published in the United States as The Beautiful Boy —, was illustrated with 200 photographs of what The Observer called "succulent teenage male beauty". Greer described the book as an attempt to address modern women's apparent indifference to the teenage boy as a sexual object and to "advance women's reclamation of their capacity for, and right to, visual pleasure".

The cover photograph, by David Bailey, was of 15-year-old Björn Andrésen in his character of Tadzio in the film Death in Venice (1971). The actor complained about Greer's use of the photograph, saying it was used without his permission and was disturbed by the contents of the book. He stated "Adult love for adolescents is something that I am against in principle... Emotionally perhaps, and intellectually, I am disturbed by it—because I have some insight into what this kind of love is about." Some writers characterised the book's nature as paedophilic, with Greer herself admitting that she expected to be called a paedophile after publication.
