Yes, but recovery was under way under FDR. He raised the GDP. Unemployment levels under FDR fell every year of his term until he was forced to reverse New Deal policies. But if it feels good to join Republicans in bashing him, go ahead.
Yes, and he also applied "authoritarian" measures in order to do so. Desperate times called for desperate measures. Remember historical context in judging actions.
And Truman was FDR's VP and successor. The New Deal actually did help millions of marginalized poor Americans.
