Day 9 - Justice League: Dream Girls by @planetx.bsky.social, @nicoleamaines.bsky.social, @brandtandstein.com, and more I've read the first two issues of DC's most ambitious Pride story ever, and it's sensational. Two very different trans heroes on an epic adventure in the dreamscape. Want more now.
Day 8 - Opting Out by @redgoldsparks.bsky.social and Swati "Lucky" Srikumar A charming story of an Indian-American kid discovering what gender does and doesn't mean to them, I mostly find it hilarious that after years of lies about "Gender Queer" being aimed at curious kids, this one actually is!
Day 7 - Dungeon Club by @leeknoxostertag.bsky.social and @xanthe.bsky.social Now a completed series of Middle-Grade graphic novels, these three books take a diverse group of teenagers through journeys of self-discovery, including gender and sexuality, paralleled with an ongoing epic D&D game.
First of all, how dare you. Your AI slop knows nothing of Grandma Arbuckle. She's a chili-powder-wielding, motorcycle-riding, rock-and-roll Christmas carol-playing legend, and you're a hallucinating clanker.
Day 6 - Long Story Short Taking a brief break from comics, this Netflix cartoon is character-driven, non-linear multi-generational dramedy about a modern Jewish family, it features an excellent portrayal of a mixed-race Jewish lesbian couple - both messy but lovable.
Day 5 - Steam by @shaenon.bsky.social and Emily Holden. A meet-cute adventure between a cynical barista and a genetically-engineered superwoman who is compelled to analytically solve the problems of everyone around us but doesn't quite "get" people, it's the sci-fi rom-com I didn't know I needed.
As you can see, there's a lot wrong with this one. Garfield and Jon didn't grow up together, Jon wouldn't care about lasagna, and - OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT MONSTROSITY ON THE LOWER RIGHT? SOMEONE KILL IT! KILL IT BEFORE IT BITES SOMEONE AND IT SPREADS!
Day 4 - Lilith by @corinmhowell.bsky.social Queer horror done right is always great to see, and this Vault OGN is thrilling, bloody, and somehow incredibly sweet. The story of man-eating demons and the humans who love them, it takes classic horror tropes and fuses them with great rep and art.
Day 3 - Just Between Us by Adeline Kon We need some queer romantic comfort food in these trying times, and I was a huge fan of this rich figure-skating drama as two former rivals become something more, with an unflinching look at just how hard being a champion skater actually is.
Day 2 - Forgive-Me-Not by @marinscos.bsky.social A unique queer reinvention of the changeling myth, this romance-adventure pairs a sheltered fae princess with the grizzled warrior woman whose life she inadvertently stole. Fantastic enemies-to-friends-to-lovers arc with a fantastic villain too.
Day 1 - The Froggy Library by @jooliefiveash.bsky.social This all-ages graphic novel features a quietly non-binary protagonist learning about their native culture in a story alternatingly heartwarming and heartbreaking. A whole lot of kids are going to see themselves in this book in many ways.

Now we're getting into some deep lore about the Garfield reproductive cycle. Is this a case of parthenogenesis, and Jon has just started to realize that he will be hosting a never-ending stream of Garfields until their ravenous appetite bankrupts him?
So there's a Facebook page that posts nothing but shitty AI-generated Garfield boomer memes obviously made by someone who has never read Garfield, and I've taken to trolling them. Because true art like Garfield must be defended at all costs, right, @rme33.bsky.social?
What sequel do you consider to be a large improvement over the original?
Got a sensible chuckle out of me despite proximity to "read a book, you darn kids" territory.
By contrast, the dad in Family Circus was based on the original Bil Keane as well, and it always amused me that in the early strips before it became more commercial, he wouldn't always make himself look the best. 😂
Legend of the Mystical Ninja was part of a wildly successful Japanese series that barely made it over here, and that one game that did is one of my faves. A combo of preliminary top-down Zelda style gaming and fast-paced side-scrolling, with tons of quirky Japanese details and fantastic bosses.
