First-ever severe weather warning under ECCC's new polygon format issued today in Alberta. ⛈️ Going forward, this storm-based polygon approach will be used for severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings in Canada. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #nlwx
Western Newfoundland saw some warmth today. Stephenville's maximum of 28.3°C marked its highest reading since June 20, 2025. #nlwx
Despite being cooler than recent years on the island, July 2026 still finished slightly above the 30-year mean. But coolest since 2021 at YYT, YQX, and YDF. Interior Labrador was a bit warmer than the past couple of Julys (highest mean since 2023 at YYR; since 2024 at YWK). #nlwx
Flip in the flow means the SW coast seeing summer weather while the E/NE have cooled. Burgeo max 24.0°C today highest since Aug 15, 2025. Contrast with max just 13.0°C at Twillingate. Pcpn has largely eased, after wet Tue/Tue night. Highest total 48 mm in Terra Nova. #nlwx
The area of heat has begun to contract, but there were still a number of 30s across Labrador for Monday's highs, along with a few on the island. Also noteworthy, just across the border in Quebec: 25.8°C at Blanc-Sablon, marking its warmest day since Sep 5, 2023. #nlwx
Webcams from the Canadian Coast Guard showing a shallow layer of marine fog in St. John's Harbour. Temperature only 13°C on Water Street at noon, while the Columbus Drive area just 5 km away was 23°C. e-navigation.canada.ca/topics/camer... #nlwx
A bit of contrast depending on location for start the weekend: grey/wet on much of the Avalon; sunny and warm for nearly the remainder of #NLwx.
Some warm lows last night in our tropical air mass. A number of locations didn't drop below 20°C all night. #nlwx
Much drier start to the work-week on the island after a wet finish to the weekend – especially on the south coast and southern Avalon. Heaviest amounts from Burgeo through Bay d'Espoir to the north side of Placentia Bay, where totals reached about 40-60 mm. #nlwx
If you're looking for near real-time satellite imagery during the ongoing GOES-19 outage, Atlantic Canada is just within the EUMETSAT domain. The imagery is distorted near the edge of the scans, but captures enough to make out overall cloud patterns. view.eumetsat.int/productviewe... #nlwx
Generally quieter #NLwx today after yesterday's showers and thunderstorms (though can't rule out scattered activity later today). Rainfall varied considerably based on where the storms occurred (e.g. only recorded 4.3 mm in #GanderWest during the day).
Pattern change making July 11th the first official 20+°C day in 2026 for Burgeo. Max 20.1°C reported thru 5:30 pm as westerly winds temper the marine influence. Meanwhile on the opposite coast, just 8.9°C at 5:30 pm in Twillingate under a solid stratus deck & northerlies. #nlwx
Milky sky this morning as wildfire smoke drifts down from the northwest. weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parm... #nlwx
Rainfall 18.4 mm through 8:30 pm in #GanderWest (most of which fell this morning, then light rain/drizzle through the afternoon & evening). Meanwhile steam fog coming off Cobb's Pond, so at least the water is warmer than the 6°C air! #nlwx
La Scie looking like a fine location to chill out this July 5th afternoon. Temperature 4.9°C at 3:30 pm; rainfall 24 mm past 12 hours. #nlwx
Been a rainy 24 hours in central #Labrador, with Goose Bay #YYR picking up 53.6 mm (and still some light rain ongoing). Parts of central & western #Newfoundland also saw localized 20+ mm totals, mostly from a 2-3 hr span of showers/t-storms late Friday afternoon and Friday evening. #nlwx
Quiet on the radar now, but some decent rain fell last night and this morning across western and interior sections of the island. The Gallants area appears to have taken a double whammy, in direct path of two clusters of cells that came through. #nlwx
