I read this for the first time since high school. Lots of fun stories in between countless examples of show biz chicanery. One fun thing: Lorne was a real head. To plan the show, he went to the Mojave Desert and took shrooms! He hung around with producer Joe Boyd!
I wrote about Stash for @aquariumdrunkard.com's mid-year review. Great album!
Opening was @emmaswiftsings.bsky.social with exquisite arrangements and enchanting performances. Though beat her rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” my favorite moment was her delivery of the perfect-o line, “I’ll keep the copy of Blood on the Tracks / You can take Mack the Knife”
Last night saw @robynhitchcock.bsky.social performing at the Grey Eagle in Asheville. Like all his setlists, it was filled with songs about love affairs, insects, frogs, and murder.
Great show last night by Setting at AyurPrana Listening Room: exploratory, funky, strange, thoughtful, and escatic. Do check out my interview with Joe Westerlund of Setting because he reveals a lot of the interworkings of the band: ashevillestages.com/music/interv...
In honor of Horse Lords announcing a new album and tour, here's a fun exchange I had with them on Old Weird Twitter:
Can one get the entirety of Calvino's Invisible Cities tattooed on one's body?
I didn't expect to see Bob Dylan circa 1965 peeking out at this BBQ place.
I'm still reeling from and reflecting on the SML performances I saw at Big Ears. This statements from my recap remain true!
I've never seen David Byrne in action before. That changed at last night's Big Ears! What a team of professionals, pushing themselves to experiment with the song arrangements , blocking, costuming, sound design, and video display. Here's "Slippery People." More to come in my report next week!
The perfect last verse of "Cynthia Mask" by @robynhitchcock.bsky.social
In my review of the Chicago Underground Duo for AD I compared their song "The Gathering" to something out of Scavengers Reign
Superb show by Makaya McCraven, Junius Paul, and Marquis Hill tonight! Review coming later this week
I wrote extensively about Amaro Freitas's performance at 2025 Big Ears, likening his playing to a pass by Kiloa Jokic. reclinernotes.com/2025/03/31/2...
