Came out of the supermarket yesterday as the sun was setting. This is looking east.

Looking east at sunset. Foreground hills are dark but the top of a distant hill is glowing orange as it catches the last of the sun. Moody orange grey clouds hang above the hills, pale blue sky above them.

It was a beautiful sunset. I was still working but had to excuse myself and go out to look at it.

Nelson was not at her sparkling best this morning but still looked rather wonderful.

Nelson haven on a grey wet day. Milky grey-green sea, the end of the Boulder Bank on the left of the Cut and Haulashore Island on the right. Looking toward the port and the city, with the background hills barely visible through the low lying cloud.

After a somewhat chaotic week it’s wonderful to be able to restore my soul at the beach for a day or two.

Good morning. Hope the sun shines for you wherever you are today.

The perfect spot for reading. A yellow book called the Cat Operator’s Manual is on the table with an empty cup - the tea it contained was just finished. Beyond the table are the tops of agapanthus, then a green lawn sweeping down to the bluest of blue seas and a paler blue sky.

4 trays of sliced figs in the dehydrator plus fig and lemon paste bubbling on the stove. I haven’t dehydrated them before so fingers crossed it works out ok. The paste is tried and true -and wonderful with blue cheese.

First fig of the season. A little later than usual but looking luscious.

Large fig, fully ripe though green skinned and just picked. A one dollar coin to show just how large the fig is. It’s a beauty.

The biggest white tail I’ve ever seen. Very pleased he/she had drowned by the time it emerged from the spout of my watering can.

Very kind of the neighbours (different ones) to have a pohutakawa right in my line of sight.

Panforte instead of Christmas cake this year. Fruity, spicy, gluten free and delicious.

Just perfect. I don’t know this book at all but a quick glance makes me want to start it immediately. Shame I have work today really. Thanks so much Santa - you did well.
