This is what the pause screen will look like in A King's Genocide!
Opening the screen freezes the game and closing the screen unfreezes the game so you don't miss what's going on while you're looking at something in another screen.
Up next is audio design!

If you're very observant, you'll notice that the background transitions from white to yellow over time.
If you're very, VERY observant, you'll notice the texture on the panel the textboxes are displayed on is rotating very slowly!

This is how the Backlog Screen will look in A King's Genocide!
While you're playing the game, you'll be able to bring this screen up at any time by pressing the L key. You can view past lines here and go back to any point in the script.

I managed to get mods to work, so I've added a panel to A King's Genocide's Scene Replay screen for it.
You'll be able to add your own scripts to the game's resource folder and then you'll be able to play it from there!
You can make your own stories regardless how mine shapes up!

In A King's Genocide, this is what the Credits screen is going to look like!
Just finding me? A King's Genocide is a dark fantasy visual novel about a series of murders happening around an angel named Aracelia.
I'm working on a demo right now using what I got, then I open Patreon!

Locked scenes will show a number indicating their place in the list and then will display "~" as text.

When you navigate through the list of scenes, each scene will have a brief summary of what occurs in the scene.

In A King's Genocide, this is what the Scene Replay screen is going to look like!
You'll be able to skip to any scene you've previously viewed. Saving is entirely disabled during replay, however.
Yes, most of this time was spent getting saving disabled. X~X

When I release the demo for A King's Genocide and open up the Patreon, this is what the Confirmation screen will look like!

The background of the Save/Load screen changes from green to yellow over time in a similar fashion as the other screens I showed off in earlier posts.

When traversing with the WASD or arrow keys, the slot will highlight pink. If you prefer navigating with the mouse, the slot will highlight green.

When you move the mouse over a save slot, a button to delete will appear. Click it and confirm your choice to delete an existing save.

There are multiple pages of save slots you can save to or load from. The max number of load slots right now is 100. Quick Load and Auto Load have a max of about 14 slots unless I feel like changing it.

When I release the demo for A King's Genocide, this is what the Save/Load screen will look like!

The Settings screen for A King's Genocide transitions from pink to yellow.
Those are all the screens I have up and running at the moment.

The Glossary's background in A King's Genocide now transitions from pink to green to red over time.
A King's Genocide is a dark fantasy visual novel, but the sequel is going to be an action RPG similar to Odin Sphere.
Dark fantasy too, of course!

The Music Gallery's background now transitions from blue to white over time.
These colors I'm picking have a meaning. When you play the whole game, you might pick up on the meaning of each of the colors.

The CG Gallery screen in A King's Genocide now transitions from red to emerald while keeping the black spotty look and noise from before.

Here's a third look at the Settings screen and its sliders.
If you're wondering how I did any of this... Shaders. Lots of fiddling around with shaders.

Here's another look at the Settings screen that shows off the drop down box.
While A King's Genocide is a visual novel, I'm taking what I learn and making an action RPG for the sequel when I finish this game.

Then here's how the Music Gallery looks.
The longer I work with shaders, the better I get!

While I was working on the shaders for the CG Gallery, I thought of a design I wanted to do instead for the CG Gallery and Glossary.
Here's what the Glossary looks like now.

In A King's Genocide, this is what the CG Gallery will look like.
You'll have a preview look of the CG when scrolling through the list, and then you'll be able to open up the CG and all other CG's tied to that first one in a new screen for you to get a closer look.

If you're trying to do a crossfade effect in Unity using shaders, make sure the images you'll be crossfading with have Mesh Type set to "Full Rect".
You'll save yourself about a weeks worth of headache wondering why your fade effect is cutting off the image you're fading to.

I have been down a rabbit hole of figuring out what controller the player is using in A King's Genocide and switching to the appropriate glyph set for the past month-ish.
It might look like it's working in the GIF, but even still, a bug cropped up while recording this.
#gamedev #indiedev

Messing with the video settings, I've got a bit better recording of the screen.

In A King's Genocide, this is what the glossary will look like when the demo releases!
As you play through scenes, you will come across certain words that will be added to the glossary and give you more information on the world at large!

When I release the demo for A King's Genocide, this will be how the Music Gallery in the game looks.
Video doesn't do this justice.

I'm working on a demo for A King's Genocide while I'm between jobs.
It's a Dark Fantasy story about an angel named Aracelia and a series of murders happening around her in the Angel City of Eridu.
It's going to be a kinetic/visual novel. But I plan on expanding it in the sequel.
