In 2024, I was proud to secure $550,000 in funding to help El Paso purchase dump trucks and a bulk-waste loader. These vehicles will remove illegally dumped waste from rural areas and county roadways, protect our waterways, and support our community during flooding and other critical emergencies.
I’m pleased to announce that the Department of Homeland Security has transferred the Socorro warehouses to the General Services Administration (GSA). This means the warehouses will be put up for sale and they will no longer be used by the federal government for detention purposes.
Every El Pasoan knows where they were on August 3rd, 2019. Today remains a solemn day, and despite the passing of time, seven years later our community continues to feel the pain, loss, and devastation from the senseless violence of that day.
Republicans are sending nearly $100 billion more of your tax dollars for a war nobody wants in Iran. They are doing absolutely nothing to address the economic crisis created by Donald Trump. Budgets and what we choose to fund are about our priorities, and Republicans aren’t prioritizing you.
Mt. Cristo Rey is a religious and cultural landmark that has been central to our community for generations. Rather than working with border communities to advance effective border security, the Trump Administration continues to disregard the people, history, and culture that make our region special.
For the first time in decades, Congress passed a bipartisan housing bill to address our nation’s housing crisis and help hard working Americans. Despite the needs it addresses and the overwhelming support it has, Donald Trump refused to sign the bill, but thankfully it became law anyway.

Today, the Government Accountability Office released a report about the "waste and performance issues" at the $1.3 billion tent city known as Camp East Montana in my community. 🧵
Last year, Republicans already gave CBP and ICE $140 billion, $100 billion of which remains unspent. Despite American families struggling to pay their bills, Republicans want to give these reckless departments another $70 billion.
Congress has spoken. The House and the Senate have both voted on a war powers resolution to end the illegal, costly war that Trump and Netanyahu started in Iran. His terrible judgment has gotten American service members killed, created chaos and made the price of gas skyrocket. End the war now.

I can’t be clearer: we do not want ICE to continue with their plans to hold 8,500 migrant detainees in warehouses in our community.
I don’t buy it when the Trump administration says they’re defunding the IRS because it’s too intrusive to the average American. It’s because they’re protecting billionaires from paying their fair share.
The Trump administration has severely reduced funding for the IRS. But if the IRS has a return on investment for our country and helps us fight tax fraud, why would they slash its funding? Because it’s all part of Project 2025.
