Courtney Jones, as one untimely born
@revecj
Texan in NW Washington. Episcopal Priest. Dean of Iona School (DioOly).⚓️ Mentor with Backstory Preaching. Baylor. DioNWTX. VST. Postings mine, not on behalf of any org. Likes: hiking, books, dogs. She/her.
A great recent visit to St. Matthew’s in Castle Rock. A lay led congregation with frequent supply provided by one of our excellent Iona grads, Father Darren. On the day I was visiting, they were re-dedicating their newly refurbished steeple cross.
Having been to @karanslade.bsky.social’s excellent lecture on the Nicene Creed last week, I was a more than a bit surprised to open the advance bulletin for my upcoming visitation:
A priest and a comedian walk into a bar… A bright spot in this week is that a lifelong friend and I were in Seattle at the same time and got to have dinner. So proud of everything that you are and are becoming, friend! (If y’all haven’t seen Kristin Key perform, go rectify that.)
We got a new foster dog a week ago - an older frenchie. Very handsome. At his intake visit to the vet, he passed out. Turns out, he had a rare and fatal cancer of the aorta. Rest in peace little friend. (Max.) 💛
Second visit on behalf of the Office of the Bishop was to Christ Church Seattle. Gorgeous historic building and even more gorgeous street chaplain ministry.
Me to me upon seeing the number of applications to the Iona School for Ministry.
First visitation on behalf of the Office of the Bishop today. The small but mighty congregation was missing their token church dog today, so Billie filled in. St. Mark’s Montesano, WA is a lovely and lively crew! ⚓️
First Sunday since my interim gig ended, so I got to touch pews … and get a blessing for graduates from one of my besties. 💛
We got to have this truly excellent fella for a little over nine years. We were so lucky and we are so grateful. Rest easy, best buddie. (Gus, aka: Gus Gus, Gus the Bus, Buster, Gussy, Augustus Cecil, ????-2026)
Prior to ordaining me the second time, Bishop Scott Mayer (DioNWTX) made me promise that if I ever lived close to a seminary, I’d go back and get my MDiv. When I graduated tonight with that MDiv, I wore the NWTX seal in his honor. Thanks for everything, Bishop. 💛
Y’all. People out there rage baiting on Al Gore’s Internet, and I keep falling for it. I should just delete my whole Facebook account, yes?
“Okay, this time with jazz hands.” We commissioned our 5(!) newly licensed worship leaders on annual meeting Sunday. A very solid crew.
Like, this is the assigned reading I’m working on today:
📕I rarely ever miss the intensity of the teaching workday. Counterpoint, there was never a day in my teaching career when I sent a question like this to my boss:
I like to listen to hype music while getting dressed for church. Tempted to wear a full on tux for Christmas Eve.
A blessed Swapping of the Post-it Note day to all who observe. 📕
My parents sent baby pictures with their card. I would still be equally gleeful to pretend to drive a tractor.
Y’all. Birthday gift from my v cool spouse. I’m smitten (with the icon and the spouse.)
I have a dog that is quite vocal when she wants something. The problem is that I dont speak “Billie.” Sometimes I have to send videos to my spouse at work to say “Why is Billie crying?” This morning it was because her blanket wasn’t in the right spot, and she needed it adjusted to take her nap. 🤦🏻
Sort of out of the blue this weekend I was gifted two new stoles: a parishioner thought I needed something colorful to wear for my speech at the local pride festival, and the other was made by a friend who is getting into making vestments (because his husband is a priest). I’m so impressed by both!
My sermon for Sunday wrecked my brain and my desk, but I’m happy to have a draft … and thrilled to see y’all!
Happy Easter, all! A few pictures from over the weekend - me reacting to the deacon sassing me, adult baptism at the Vigil (alleluia!), me reacting to the deacon sassing me (again), and spouse and me during altar party/altar guild “Party with Jesus!”
Limit 5. A little over $3k each. This is… ominous, yes?
Got to meet some sheep today after church. My job is often unpredictably fun.
