Reformation; but the Brethren had little interest in the problems of the institutional church. Their spirituality, known as the "New Devorion" (Devotio moderna), has influenced both Catholic and Protestant traditions of prayer and meditation.
In The Imitation of Christ, Thomas wrote: "A humble knowledge of oneself is a surer road to God than a deep searching of the sciences. Yet learning itself is not to be blamed, nor is the simple knowledge of anything whatsoever to be despised, for true learning is good in itself and ordained by God; but a good conscience and a holy life are always to be preferred. But because many are more eager to acquire much learning than to live well, they often go astray, and bear little or no fruit. If only such people were as diligent in the uprooting of vices and the panting of virtues as they are in the debating of problems, there would not be so many evils and scandals among the people, nor such laxicy in communities. At the Day of Judgement, we shall not be asked what we have read, but what we have done; not how eloquently we have spoken, but how holily we have lived. Tell me, where are now all those Masters and Doctors whom you knew so well in their lifetime in the full flower of their learning?
Other men now sit in their seats, and they are hardly ever called to mind. In their lifetime they seemed of great account, but now no one speaks of them."

3 They had been saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" 4 When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. A bicyclist died Monday in a crash with a pickup truck on Cape Cod, police said.
The crash happened shortly before 11 a.m. in the area of Route 6 and Lieutenant Island Road
near the Wellfleet town line, Wellfleet police said in a Facebook post
Monday.
Police learned that an 83-year-old bicyclist had been struck by a 2019 Toyota Tundra, according to the post.

Maria made a
rented house in Paris her "convent" It was a place with an open door for refugees, the needy and the lonely. It also soon became a center for intellectual and theological discussion. For Maria, these two elements-service to the poor and theology-went hand-in-hand.
When the Nazis took Paris in 1940, Maria began to provide a safe haven for Jewish Parisians. Many came to her hoping to receive baptismal certificates, which they believed would prevent their deportation. Her chaplain, Father Dimitri, gladly provided them. As the occupation became more dangerous, the community hid more Jewish people, providing shelter and helping many to escape.
Eventually, this work of the community was discovered by the Gestapo. Maria, her son Yuri, her mother Sophia, and Dmitri Klepinin were all taken into custody.
Maria was sent to the concentration camp in Ravensbrück, Germany. While imprisoned, she encouraged the other inmates. Her faith was strengthened by her claim that "each person is the very icon of God incarnate in the world." With this recognition came the need "to accept this awesome revelation of God unconditionally, to venerate the image of God" in her brothers and sisters.

The LoRD said to Joshua, "Stand up! Why have you fallen upon your face? "Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant that I imposed on them. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have acted deceitfully, and they have put them among their own belongings. ' Therefore the Israelites are unable to stand before their enemies; they turn their backs to their enemies, because they have become a thing devoted for destruction themselves. I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.
1 Proceed to sanctify the people, and say,
*Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the LorD, the God of Israel, "There are devoted things among you, O Israel; you will be unable to stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you."

HEN Joshua son of Nun sent two men & secretly from Shittim as spies, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and entered the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and spent the night there. 2 The king of Jericho was told, "Some Israelites have come here tonight to search out the land." 3 Then the king of Jericho sent orders to Rahab, "Bring out the men who have come to you, who entered your house, for they have come only to search out the whole land." 4 But the woman took the two men and hid them. Then she said, "True, the men came to me, but I did not know where they came from.
5 And when it was time to close the gate at dark, the men went out. Where the men went I do not know. Pursue them quickly, for you can overtake them." FTER the death of Moses the servant of the
LORD, the LORD spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' assistant, saying, 2 "My servant Moses is dead. Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, as I promised to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, to the Great Sea in the west shall be your territory. SNo one shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. "Be strong and courageous; for you shall put this people in possession of the land that I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to act in accordance with all the law that my servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, so that you may be successful wherever you go. Praying today with Deuteronomy 3- let us pray 🙏: O God, I will own I’m not entirely sure what’s going on here, but I know I haven’t gone up to Mt Pisgah to see the big picture lately. I’m stuck in the weeds. I may not cross over, but I’ve lost the big vision of freedom. Renew me. Help me see Jordan.

Praying today with Numbers 35- let us pray 🙏: Oh thank goodness, we are back with Moses in Canaan, Lord. We need cities of refuge now, for this land is harsh and cruel in our day. I need a city of refuge, God. Take us in. Guide us into Your gates. Welcome us home when we get lost & pollute the land.

The LorD spoke to Moses, saying: 1° Speak to the Israelites, and say to them: When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan, "then you shall select cities to be cities of refuge for you, so that a slayer who kills a person without intent may flee there. "The cities shall be for you a refuge from the avenger, so that the slayer may not die until there is a trial before the congregation. ' The cities that you designate shall be six cities of refuge for you: '4 you shall designate three cities beyond the Jordan, and three cities in the land of Canaan, to be cities of refuge. '5 These six cities shall serve as refuge for the Israelites, for the resident or transient alien among them, so that anyone who kills a person without intent may flee there. 3° If anyone kills another, the murderer shall be put to death on the evidence of witnesses; but no one shall be put to death on the testimony of a single witness. 3 Moreover you shall accept no ransom for the life of a murderer who is subject to the death penalty; a murderer must be put to death. 32 Nor shall you accept ransom for one who has fled to a city of refuge, enabling the fugitive to return to live in the land before the death of the high priest. 3 You shall not pollute the land in which you live; for blood pollutes the land, and no expiation can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it. 34 You shall not defile the land in which you live, in which I also dwell; for I the Lord dwell among the Israelites.

Praying today with Matthew 11- let us pray 🙏: Gracious God, help your children out. We are clearly not hanging out with enough sinners and tax collectors. Your ways are hidden. Your burden is light. But we keep taking the yoke back on ourselves. Help me hand my burdens over to You & keep it there.
