Every city's got an ominous megastructure...

A nighttime view of the main library branch of the Edmonton Public Library, the Stanley A. Milner library, a cubist-inspired modern building that strikes upwards at an angle in an almost-threatening, knifelike gesture. It's industrial-steel-brutalism has been compared to a military vehicle, earning it the nickname ThinkTank, amongst others.

I spent most of my childhood riding these things (particularly the electric ones, hence the cables on the roof) so I'm not the least bit surprised to hear that Edmonton squeezes every last penny out of their public transit assets.

Edmonton trolley bus, an electric bus manufactured in 1981-82 and which was in use until the spring of 2009. The bus was powered by overhead spring-loaded connecters which ran along wires suspended over the roads along the transit path.
