the first time I saw a very still caterpillar off the plant, I relocated it thinking it was lost and starving now I know that they do this when they’re preparing to molt, and moving them can endanger them have to postpone planting these milkweeds until their tenants are moving around again

nothing in nature breaks my brain like a passiflora bloom like, what

this is the biggest alt text challenge I’ve ever faced, here goes: a 3-4 inch flower with a base of evenly spaced white petals almost obscured by an upper layer of radiating tendrils thinner than dental floss that are purple at the base then bleed to white as they go from straight to kinky at the ends. at the center is a complicated light green double decker 3-part structure dotted with tiny purple pinpoints. vivid shiny kelly-green leaves and white jasmine flowers are in the background. what I can’t describe is how weird and alien and beautiful this thing looks, it’s a star trek TOS-ass flower and anyone who lives in the appropriate growing zone can just plant it and it will go nuts putting out these martian blooms that attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and then, if you have a fruiting variety, a huge amount of crazy sweet-tart fruits
