Indeed! I have not seen one since I got this digiscope of one a little off the road near Wilare in north Western Australia in 2005.

This young lyrebird came to within 5 cms of my phone yesterday but when she saw her reflection in the case, her curiosity turned to surprise and, with crest up, she beat a hasty retreat. #birds #nature

The state of Variegated Fairy-wrens around Sydney right now. I'm going to launch a YouTube channel in a few weeks were I will be taking a deep dive into the fundamentals of how and why we see plumages of male fairy-wrens evolve through their lives and seasons, and why fairy-wrens are fairy-wrens!

Fruits of the White Beech Tree on Lady Carrington Drive, Royal NP. They're awaiting the Brown Cuckoo Doves, Wonga Pigeons, Green Catbirds and Satin Bowerbirds who will enjoy them. Any which they break up and leave will be eaten by the Yellow-throated Scrubwrens who make this patch their home #birds

This may change your world. Birds process sound and vision around 10 times more rapidly than humans do. Here, I have a 2.3 second clip of an Eastern Whipbird call, followed by the same clip slowed 10x. Perhaps it's time to recognise that different intelligences are no less relevant than ours. #Birds

Those masters of the air aren't worried about a little storm. When I was Warden at Broome Bird Observatory I'd watch the White-bellied Sea-Eagles as the huge summer storms came in. They'd just raise their wings into a "V" and spiral up, soaring away. Here's a beautiful Osprey on Roebuck Bay . . .

Bad Lorikeets! Here's what can happen if you leave a window open in Sydney. After helping themselves to some honey I had put out for my mum, they perched on my iMac for the morning no doubt waiting for seconds . . . cheeky buggers. #birds #birding #nature #badlorikeets

The "Pork Chop Crew", one of many trios of young male lyrebirds in Royal National Park who spend their days joyously dashing around the rainforest floor, into trees or onto rock ledges before floating back to the ground all the while practicing their song, dance & mimicry, on endless repeat. #birds

Take a few seconds to enjoy the beautiful rainforest sounds of the Hacking River Valley and a Superb Lyrebird as he forages. He's ably assisted by a Yellow-throated Scrubwren who are comensal to lyrebirds and are also excellent mimics. #birds #birding #nature #naturelovers #lyrebirds

Even here on Sydney's southern beaches we seem to have a colony of these Southern Leaf-tailed Geckos, as they turn up in our garden and on our walls now and again. #nature #herping #reptiles #geckos

Ruddy Turnstones at Boat Harbour (Sydney) on a very windy beach (hence the camera shake). The Ruddy Turnstone's bill is the "Swiss Army Knife" of the bird world. It's many uses makes them a success on beaches, rocky headlands and mud flats. They're joined by a random Red-necked Stint. #birding

Superb Lyrebirds in rainforests are often accompanied by this fellow, hopping around and collecting any of small invertebrates which are disturbed in the vigorous leaf raking. This is the Yellow-throated Scrubwren, a comensal of the lyrebird and one of the forest's most fascinating species. #birding

The Rufous Fantail, a beautiful summer migrant in Sydney forests right now. These chirpy chaps mostly forage in denser vine tangles and shrubbery where they use their fanned tails and wings to disturb small invertebrates. However they will also sally from a perch too. #birding #birds #nature
