There's a beloved bald eagle in Waterford, NY, named "Mr. Peebles." Albany Symphony commissioned a new piece in his honor. "The Ballad of Mr. Peebles" will be performed on a floating platform in the Erie Canal this Friday. This is the news we all need today. (Full article in thread below.)
This week was all about viewing the monthly film club movies I was too busy to watch the last few weeks, so I had to squeeze them in before tonight's meet-up. Just under the wire! #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday #FilmSky
I am “I got a fancy new camp chair for Father’s Day and I’ve been at this little league baseball field since 8am” years old.
Another weird week, and I can't even blame this one entirely on my film club... It just happened this way naturally. #filmsky #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday
It's that day again... #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday #Filmsky
Temporary office at Stacks Espresso on Lark this morning. It continues to be weird for me that this is the old Cafe Hollywood space. This place has seen some stuff. Heck, *I've* seen some ... stuff... in this place. And now I'm working from a quiet table here while sipping cappuccino.
So hey, this is nice: My @timesunion.com story about KISStory, the local band that's been recreating the KISS experience in full makeup & costume for 30 years now, won 3rd place in the NY Press Association's annual awards in the "Feature Story" category. (More info & link in thread below.)
A lot of laughs at Troy Music Hall tonight with Craig Ferguson. Such a good set from one of my favorite comedians in one of my favorite local venues. Not a bad way to roll into Friday...
Tonight it's "& Juliet" at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady! I suspect this will not be the tale of woe I know...
Spending this evening with @nyswi.bsky.social listening to a conversation about podcasts and writing with Paul Grondahl, Adam Colman and Andrew Leland. Because we can always learn more.
Celebrating Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company's 35th anniversary at The Egg! We fancy!
Another wild week of movies, thanks to my monthly film club (mostly): #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
Working from a coffee shop on Lark Street this Friday morning as I feed myself with caffeine & breakfast things and feed the appetite for local media with stories about art and other things.
Stopped by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society "Kitten Shower" event today in Albany. In these crazy times, spending an hour or so holding kittens is exactly the sort of emotional recharge a tired soul needs.
April showers bring... April snow? Shmebulock the rainbow-barfing gnome is not amused.
Here's a photo of one small section of my home office. I don't have a particular reason for sharing it. I just like it. I find that I get my best work done within a cozy sphere of geekery.
R.I.P. Sam Kieth, a true original in his storytelling and his art. Comics wouldn't be the storytelling medium they are now without him.
Some random selfies from last night's GWAR show, taken from the press photo area where I fled to once the fluids started flying:
RIP Chuck Norris. Met him during my MTV News era. Told him I watched his films when I visited my dad & he was the first person I interviewed who I dressed up as for Halloween as a kid. His politics were problematic, but he was kind to me & seemed genuinely touched by my strong memories of his films.
It's difficult to adequately express how proud I am of this front page for today's @timesunion.com Preview section. At the top, exquisite photos for a feature on Ballet Hispánico's re-imagined "Carmen." Below the fold, Blothar the Berzerker discussing his nipples, GWAR sex toys, and Mario Kart.
