Here fishy fishy in the anglers soft voice, or… a basket full at a time.
118 heat index leads to cow pond plunge. I am glad we have large erosion control ponds to accommodate their needs.
Not that way in W KY! But your weather is supposed to be here tomorrow.
Eagle standing on a fence post, surveying his rabbit hunting range. Our house in the background. We get to be close to restored nature!
Riding the mud line. Two men drive and 2 men ride the mud line. Seine goes across a 400 ft wide pond. Live car in the middle is the catfish corral that lets small fish out and keeps the harvest size fish.
Today is the first day I feel like I am retired. Home @ 2:00 PM on a pretty day, watching the world cup.
Plenty of rain and they are in grazing formation. Making the grazing circle back to the shade.
If crops look like they do in Western KY, then corn will be $3.00 plus change at harvest. In my 47 crop years, this one so far, is perfect rains at perfect times. We quit row crop after 24 season, and are a “Surf and Turf” only operation. (Catfish and Cattle) But we buy a lot of feed!
We normally have a good 4th of July rain. This year we had a celebrated week of good rain.
Grandsons throwing rocks in KY Lake is a thing! Only had to say once: “Don’t throw rocks at your brother.”
If you have a handicapped person in your life, this makes a great gift. Groceries from car to kitchen, moving anything, and if you are in an apartment building it will be borrowed. I bought this as a gift and it is popular in his building! Also folds into 4 wheel cart. Love your neighbor!
I had lunch with my CNH salesman, the store manager and the warranty manager. Brazil was playing on the big screen TV. I told them that, there is a good chance nobody is at work in the entire country of Brazil! The President of Paraguay gave his country a national day off for their win! Futbol!
Farm Fans Grain Dryer 1976 models had the Spirit of 76 logo that was probably copied from this image. We used to have a reason to celebrate!
Here is an example of 3 - 5 acre catfish ponds and the visual of the algae blooms on each pond. We are algae farmers. When the sun is out, algae puts dissolved oxygen (DO) into the water, that supports our fish production. We use aerators to keep DO at proper levels to sustain our fish, at night.
Calloway Co KY corn tasseling on June 12th. Normally a July 4th event. Corn will start with a 3, this fall.
Please purchase a Superbar. You will fall in love with it. You will always know where it is because you can’t live without it.
Cutting hay using GPS guidance, no point rows! I can open a new land and everything stays straight and the same width. Tall fescue, white and red clover hay.
I bought a used JD 230 disk in the 1980’s. There was constantly something wrong with it. So I cut it up. The hitch frame became a boom for loading fish. The gang frame is now part of a rock structure in a waterway.
We caught an albino catfish yesterday and let it go into our 2000 lb order. Pay ponds will run a competition that the person that catches it will win $100.00. Pictured: Austin, he works for us when he is not on a 2 week deckhand shift on a barge going down the Mississippi.
Being a Rick is not the reason I like hay ricks! But there is something beautiful about putting up high quality hay.
Last fall we rented the NRCS no no till drill and planted cereal ryegrass into a stand of white clover and tall fescue. The cereal rye gives us a long stem to roll up the white clover and fescue into tight bales. Same reason you need bread to hold your grape jelly!
