That is indeed one of my reference points! I gathered up a bunch of sprites from GBA games(and DS) to find the right direction for my sprites. This is what it looks like
Thinking about a Mario platformer for GBA again - here's a couple custom sprites based around that concept. (sprites above for comparison)
It's hard to notice, but for some reason during the GameCube and early-Wii era Mario's hat is darker than his shirt. Both his hat and shirt do use the same range of colors - but only his hat brim has a lighter shade of red, everything else being a darker shade.
When Silliens meet their training criteria, they are taken to undisclosed areas to do important work. They would be granted privileges that allows them to live more comfortably. Not all Silliens are created equal, however. Some have struggled to keep up with the work, which frustrates the founders.
A program is established - Sillien Studies. Required by birth, Silliens are placed in a facility to receive education and earn qualifications to participate in work. Knowledge of the outside world is limited to ensure control of Silliens. This proved highly divisive between scientists and employers.
The experiment is a success. Silliens were capable of performing tasks with vastly greater flexibility than commonplace androids. They would be perfect for industry work! There was one problem though, at least to corporations: Silliens were sapient. They don't always see eye to eye on things.
The end result? Silliens. The name is a play on an already existing species called Sidiens, which comprises most scientists who worked on the experiment. The name can also be considered a portmanteau of "silicon" and "alien". Silliens are recognizable by their very pale skin and pitch black eyes.
In the year of [INSERT YEAR HERE], scientists are conducting an experiment: to create a living organism. Using special minerals found in deep space, they repurpose cloning technology to have a rudimentary method of building essential components for sentient life.
Practicing Rayman Origins’ art - Here’s my take on the Rayman 3 and Sparks of Hope design
By the way, that second image was done by drawing a sketch that I would scale down, because the composition was kind of ambitious
There’s a certain way mascot characters are colored, but I’m not sure how to describe it. Drew a sketch of what I mean:
There are a lot of scenes in Retold that are just breathtaking, with so much beauty and color. And it's like...gosh, I wish this wasn't *just* Legends again...
I should do more sketches with brush at half-opacity, I feel more in control somehow~
When I was in high school, I used to watch Gaming Garbage. For those who don't know, it was a let's play channel whose hosts are Lowtax and Shmorky. And yes, I found this channel through the latter person. Damn...really weird looking back on this, huh?
