I’ve become a ‘seal whisperer’. This one seal was hanging out in front of of my beach office (aka park bench by 3rd beach) all afternoon - and then my wife and I went swimming at Jericho (across the bay), and out of nowhere we had another seal swim between us.
Friendly geese feeding by the banana trees (and ignorantly blocking the bike lane like some common tourists) feels uniquely Vancouver.

A weekend goal is to find animals in the wild. We saw this one seal swimming on his back, spitting in the air, but didn't get video. But I did get these - the Vancouver to Burnaby Fraser bike lane is now open where I saw this heron. Also, urban koi fish, a frog on a rock and a turtle in a tree.
I saw a post recently and it was like: just for minorities - what’s your unironic favourite thing about white people? My answer was farmers markets. This is my haul from the Dude Chilling market. All local food too - farmers looked so tired from driving in from the desert at 4am.
I love how Musqueam does street signs on their reserve and hate how they do signs off their reserve. On the reserve, it's in the language and then transliterated into pronounceable letters for everyone. Off rez? It's translated into English and the original word is left sans an easy pronunciation.
I don't know what I said or liked on Facebook, but my recommended video feed is 35% birds showering in slow-mo to R&B music.
The Dude Chilling garage sale has got gigantic. It now covers the whole park end to end - from one side of the farmer’s market to the other. And given the neighborhood it’s all posh and middle class. I bought the pyrex set.
Granville is this right now with every 50 meters a different scene - all organized by the shops. Like the barber shop that put in giant screens to watch the game, or the shawarma place / street disco. The city's doing a good job, but the best thing they're doing is getting out of people's way.
Went to check out Fifa today - like the Olympics but with way more stuff to do - more dancing in the streets, and demographically, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and a little European and Aussie.

Keeping in mind that there already is a law against "downplaying" the Holocaust - not just denying it, but diminishing it. So, unless these free speech champions also call for that law to be struck from the books the issue isn't really free speech, is it?
Back in Montreal for the week. Walked past 3 separate and unrelated street festivals. In summer this city is the Barcelona of Canada (vs Vancouver - which is basically Canada’s Instagram account or Toronto, which is a brutal indictment of the collective failures of all 3 levels of government).
Got bannock and tiny strawberries at the Olympic Village market today. That flag sure is hard to miss…as is all the kvetching.
15 minute bike ride from home. Yesterday the water was warm enough and today it was bathtub temps at low tide. During summer I try and spend half the day working from the beach. But it's June 2nd and I'm already sunned out.

Sometimes in Vancouver, if you look up, you’ll see a flock of seagulls and a murder of crows attacking an eagle. Seagulls are followers - but I don’t know what it is with crows - tall poppy syndrome? But they hate an eagle.
