The Italian Chapel at Lamb Holm, Orkney. Constructed by Italian prisoners of war during World War II.
Just the weather for visiting standing stones and Neolithic chambered cairns.
Orkney, where it’s rained all day and is 13 degrees but feels like 6. I bet you wish you were here.
Went to see some old people performing songs from Ziggy Stardust. I’d happily listen to Brian Molko sing the whole album.
There’s a man standing near me chanting “I’m England till I die” and he’s not even looking at the view. Bloody traitor.
The Marilyn Monroe centenary exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery is suitably sad and beautiful.
The Italian commentator shouting “Bellingham, BELLINGHAM!” is probably a lot better than you’re getting on ITV. And their programme host looks like this too.
Just voted for Argentina as the best pavilion at the Biennale. Argentina also win the World Cup according to my predictions on the Guardian website. So a nice summer double for them.
If these people were black and in London the headline would read “Rioters set fire to bus…”. Language matters and I’m afraid the BBC knows exactly what it’s doing. As someone else said, this is not the BBC anymore.
Spain’s pavilion at the Venice Biennale features walls of themed postcards. For example, cats and popes. It’s most pleasing.
Back to emptying the drinks cabinet. Tonight it’s a Kahlúa (vintage unknown) with cream (best before early April 2026). Gorgeous.
The list of things Peter Murrell spent the SNP’s money on reads like a modern day Generation Game, “And on the conveyer belt tonight”.
If it’s Friday night it must be Black Box Recorder at the London Palladium. And if sarcasm could take the form of a band it would be Black Box Recorder. I loved it.
The David Bowie show “You’re Not Alone” at the Lightroom in King’s Cross is excellent. Concert footage and Bowie ephemera on big screens all around you and the music is played LOUD. I think he’d approve.
A couple of photos I took last night at the Southbank’s 75th celebration of itself.
Whoever designed the Apple Music image for the new Prince song gets a house point.
In tonight’s restaurant they turned up Nessun Dorma to 10 as the sun set.
Saw some nice Warhols today and Picassos that were so good I forgot to take photos of them.
