Logged in to Spotify for the first time in a while to see this: my high school rockstar friend @rosealaimomusic.bsky.social just dropped an EP! #newmusicfriday
I have no idea why this post blew up, but I *do* know that this event will be an absolute banger. This story collection is incredible--accessible and unpredictable in the best way. I also felt like I learned a ton about China. AND there's a story set in Pittsburgh!
I'm loving this book, and it's really neat that the author (and book) has so many Pgh connections. Wang Xiaobo and Li Yinhe studied at Pitt in the 80s. Li-Young Lee began writing poetry in Pittsburgh & Huang Xiang created his House Poem here. Details: whitewhalebookstore.com/events
Goddamn, what a book! Also, I always like to read the acknowledgements page bc it's a reminder that any book is the distillation of a tremendous amount of individual thought and effort, plus the love and support of so many different friends + communities.

Currently reading Percival Everett's JAMES, a retelling of Huck Finn from Jim's perspective.
"The Secret Lives of Church Ladies" was an absolute knockout of a collection, so I was beyond honored that my story was chosen by Deesha Philyaw to be included in this anthology. Thrilled to be in great company as well.
I was lucky enough to read an ARC of What Mennonite Girls Are Good For, and I can honestly say it was one of the best collections I've read in the past decade. And I read A LOT. Haunting & upsetting in the best way possible. Super-relevant and urgent. Highly recommended. jennifer-sears.com
Kazansky's. Gullifty's. Zaw's. Sammy's Famous Corned Beef downtown. Weep with me.
Grateful for this Ohio weekend full of ambient rage & menace @aubreyhirsch.bsky.social @danchaon.bsky.social
I tried to pre-order @aubreyhirsch.bsky.social 's latest book, but it turns out it was just published! Can't wait for this one to arrive.
I have never smashed the "buy" link faster. It's #bandcampfriday, by the way! At least for an hour and 18 minutes.
This image has been floating around the internet, so I decided to check for myself. YIKES.
I know this is off-brand, but my feelings about this man have long (Pittsburgh) roots.
Amazing how time flies. One of my favorite albums during high school and beyond. Holds up pretty well, too!
I have been looking forward to this book release for years now. Can't wait to see two of my favorite writers in one place!
For the writers out there: Microsoft claims it's not scraping everything you type into MS Word to train its AI programs. In case you don't believe them, here's how to opt out:
