And we found a reliable ‘multisensory centre with modality-selective periphery’: visual imagery posteriorly, auditory ventrally, and tactile anterior-dorsally — all encircling a central multisensory hub. This was seen in normalised and native surfaces, indivisual and group results.
At long last, I’m excited to share our latest preprint on the cortical topography of mental imagery! Building on the tethering hypothesis of brain evolution, we examined the spatial layout of imagery-driven neural activities to know how visual, auditory, tactile & multisensory imagery is organised.

Synaesthesia is not a disability, not a disorder, not abnormal. Adults, parents, teachers often dismiss their kids' synaesthetic experiences or believe they might be just "making up stories" or "seeking attention." We need to raise awareness & support kids with this unique condition. #synaesthesia

We found angular gyrus function can be best understood through a continuum from perception-guided to memory-guided cognition. As processing gradually becomes more perceptually decoupled and reliant on memory, the contribution of angualr gyrus increases! - more details in our paper (part 3 of 3) 😀

I wrote this Cortex commentary in response to a recent fMRI study on the angular gyrus's role in segmenting continuous info (e.g., speech, music, film), reviewing key findings & discussing how human connectome research can illuminate neural event segmentation. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
